I saw this on Saturday, but am really curious about the release plan?

I saw this the other day, mainly because it seemed to come with a lot of actors that I completely love.

For me, Adam Scott, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Amy Poehler, Clark Duke, Richard Jenkins, and Catherine O'Hara were HUGE selling points (and for others, I'm sure Jane Lynch should have drawn a bigger crowd - I like her, just not so much the "Glee" popularity). It was funny, and had some relatable ideas in it that I understand as an ACOD (LOL), myself. That said, my parental situation isn't nearly as messy as Carter's, but it was still fun to watch.

Anyway - I'm quite curious as to why it seems to be pretty buried as far as release goes. Most of the stars are pretty big names these days, and I'd think the film could make a few bucks if released a little more widely. I get that it's an indie film (and that's another reason I liked it), but still - when I looked for it in New York City, it was playing in exactly 2 theaters. Two great theaters, mind you, and luckily, one is quite near my house - but still. Two theaters in NYC? That's VERY limited.

I went on Saturday night (and yes, it was the last showing that night, and was quite late) - but for a theater that I've seen packed at that hour, there were 3 of us in the whole theater. What's the deal?

Clearly, due to the (non)response to the film on this board, I'm feeling like no one saw this thing.

Does anyone have any knowledge as to why this movie likely has almost no one watching it, and why such a tiny, tiny, release?

To add - I happened to look this up on Boxofficemojo.com today, and saw that it's playing in exactly 3 theaters, period, so I guess I'll consider myself lucky that I live in a place that contains 2 of those 3. I'll take an educated guess and say the other one must be in LA. Anyone know?

And just so strange - I only knew about this movie because I saw an article about it a few months back online, then saw a preview on this site, then saw a preview in a theater. But then it's only released in 3 theaters? I don't quite get it. The other odd thing? Only marketing I've seen aside from the trailer, was a small (about the size of a piece of notebook paper) poster for it taped haphazardly to a streetlight post last night.

I still find this whole thing odd. This could have made at least a few more bucks if it was being shown in a few more cities, or even theaters, I have to believe...

Well I saw it in tampa on monday. I thought it was ok. Good cast, funny situations. But could have been better. However nothing else out sounded appealing.

Yeah, looks like it's expanding slowly, I think I saw something like 17 theaters a few days back - I suspect it won't go too wide, but maybe I'm wrong.

Glad you got to see it - I get what you're saying, could have been funnier, but I dug it a lot, anyway. That said, I'd probably watch Amy Poehler and Adam Scott paint a wall for two hours. I think whatever they do is great.
