Whatever happened to...?

Whatever happened to Steve Perry? Sirius XM Radio played a song last week called "Don't Fight It" (82) alongside Kenny Loggins. Steve Perry was just about everywhere in the 80's with Journey, Live Aid, collaborating with other singers as well as a highly successful music career. I always wondered what became of Steve Perry after he left Journey. I would imagine he's now well into his late 60's. Steve Perry was to 80's music as was John Hughes was to numerous successful 80's movies and then they both vanished. The last I heard of Steve Perry whereabouts was that he was living on a farm. Does anybody else know what happened to this music icon?

It's said Steve Perry years ago had a "hip injury" which forced him to quit touring. (This is suspect, many people have had hip surgery and continued on. Lady Gaga said she just had hip surgery, and Eddie Van Halen some years ago had it.) There must have been another, or other reasons, to make Steve Perry think it was time to quit - voice problem? family problem? just tired of the lifestyle? Who knows? This is what starts rumours.

Last I here he is working on new music.

1. Voice problems.
2. He still gets a nice chunk of what Journey earns and doesnt need the money.
3. Lead singers disease.

Wow, I thought everyone had forgotten about "Don't Fight It"! It's one of those Top 20 hits that I never seem to hear on the 80's stations.

And reasons 1, 2 and 3 above are probably all true.

And I think Liza Minnelli has all new hips and knees and still keeps going.

A friend of mine is a lawyer who does a little legal work for Steve Perry.
He said Steve is doing good, working on some new songs but Steve is content with staying semi-retired and not becoming a has-been singer playing the same songs over and over. He is also worried about been able to sing a full show which he has not done in years.
Steve also said he will never, never, ever and he means EVER, that he will play with Journey again.

And I say good for him, he has plenty of money enabling him to live in comfort the rest of his life. Touring with the band is a young man's game in spite of evidence to the contrary all around us. He'll seriously live a longer life span because he quit touring.

A Fellow Aquarian Robin Zander of Cheap Trick still tours with them and they are about the same age, Steve born Jan 22nd Robin born Jan 23rd so some singers can do it longer than others, Of course Paul McCartney still sounds great at 70 !

I think it has more do with the typical lead singer ego/diva attitude. Perry had Ross and Steve Smith kicked out of the band when they spit up after their success period. It's possible there was still some bad blood as Steve quit after they reunited and made an album in the mid 90s.

Actually they're all in their 60s except for Arnel and Dean who are in their 40s. Perry was the oldest member of the classic line-up.
