Great singer but nothing new

So I see Journey in concert and was pretty impressed with Arnel's singing. A couple complaints though. 1. Its nothing new at all. Its like a cover singer playing with the band. 2. I saw them in Nevada....didnt know there were that many filipinos in Nevada! Music the same, sound the same but all of a sudden filipinos think its the greatest music ever? If nothing else I am glad for the band's success. I am sure this movie will be a hit in California and the Philippines.

Are you also the poster above yourself named 'MyInnerSpace'? You JUST registered this account (livmtb) to make this comment, and it's almost word for word the same as theirs.

Yours:

MyInnerSpace:
"Instead of going with a new sound, they've become their own tribute band..."

Seems like you made 2 threads that say the same thing. Could be a coincidence, but I dunno...

Your response, though perceptive, is hardly worth the time it took you to type it. Feeding trolls is never wise.

They chose to exhibit Arnel as someone that could sing their old tunes for a good reason. At the same time, they came out with a whole new album that featured the same sound, but all new songs. There's no "tribute" in that. End of story. The new songs stand on their own. I like some just as much as the Steve Perry-led hits.

I liked Journey in the 70s, but the comments Neil Schon made about how they needed to play their "Sound" that's what the fans wanted. So in a sense he is saying they are trapped with their old music. Instead of going out and performing what the band wanted to.

A great example of a band that has never conformed is King Crimson. When Fripp felt the band had reached it's limits, he stopped it. Only to reform again when the muse arrived.

King Crimson was never a band that played the same way every night. When you attended a King Crimson concert, you left your expectations at the door.

Sure Journey is making more money than King Crimson, but I bet you could play two Journey performances from their latest tour, and they would sound the same. That can't be said about King Crimson!

There are a lot of bands that never play the same way every night and are very forgettable. I wouldn't know a King Crimson song if I heard it. Bands who have been around for thirty + years and sell out stadiums do so because people liked their songs, especially the ones they know. People who have been fans of a band for a long time don't go to a concert to hear new material that is different from the songs they know. Bands who play to large crowds do so to make money, to make a living. If you don't like a band because they play their own material, then don't listen to or follow them. It's your choice.
