Almost as smart as it thinks it is...

Interesting movie with some nice visuals and a plot that is both numbingly complicated but ultimately simple. I enjoyed it, even though the odd combination of astrophysics and noir detective cliches came off as more pseudo-intellectual than actually, well, intellectual.

Gotta say, though: worst Schrödinger's cat pun ever. That it involved Snoop "Dogg" did not save it.

I gave it 6/10 for setting the bar high and sort of clearing it.

nothing is faster than light.. not mentioning 'in vacuum' and outside of gravity fields or tachyons..? sigh

Faster than light in this movie is a refference to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell's_theorem , whose implication is that either there is, exactly as it is mentioned in the movie, a magical force faster than light, or that nothing really exists until it is observed. The physical experiments that prove this fully disprove dialectic materialistic view on reality. Modern science is much cooler and weirder than most people think.

It can be, perhaps, argued that a blend of physics and plot is not always working well (for me it does, mostly, though... except the big crash in the end, perhaps), but all the physics mentioned in this movie is, in fact, very well researched and phrased in ways in which scientists did it a long time ago.

Light is electromagnetic radiation that has a source which emits the rate upon which it's energy dissipation reaches a point of critical mass and then slows down upon it's own inertia.

However, Einstein's Theory of Relativity will eventually break down and your premise will be proven a fallacy just like Newton's Classical Mechanics was proclaimed to be impervious to theories when in reality Classical Mechanics, Relativity and Quantum Mechanics are but 3 theories that cover sections [domains] of physical behavior, but not remotely all domains of physical matter.

In twenty years we'll have a laugh that we thought Light Speed the the fastest electromagnetic energy can travel.

How come? The Energy it took to create the known Universe we have already been able to measure is making it abundantly clear it had to travel faster than that in order to provide such volume and now 11 dimensions [and counting] of quantifiable existence.

I like this post!

If only the physics actually ended up being integral to the plot, that would've really been something monumental.

As it is, the physics seems, well, I don't want to say "tacked on" because there's more apparent effort than that at integrating it into the movie. Still though it wasn't necessary, and just added a bit of random interchangeable chaos to throw you off. Physics could just as easily have been anything else, like, I dunno, the art of aerobics video production.

Still a beautiful movie and I enjoyed it. It just let me down in the end.

Really loved all the subtle little physics demos in this movie, especially the stuff with the spotlight in that first nightclub scene: From the beam first traveling across the room in slo-mo to the "gravity lensing" as the massive Russian steps in front of it. Pure awesome!

This is the worst movie I have seen in a long time. The plot is numbingly awful and sounds like it is wrote by some highschool science philosopy student. 3/10, purely for having hot women in it.

This post sounds like it is written by someone who has a hard time with words.

I agree with you, LostSok. The movie, up until Sam Elliot's character, had a good noir feel and a nice sentimental combination of filming styles that never seemed to point out budget. Once we got to the astrophysics and cliches - it almost felt like a different film.

I agree on the quantum mechanic pun and Snoop. I think it was meant to be a clever dog and cat moment, both alive yet not - in one split moment -but it just sort of flopped.

I dunno, I just watched it and we thought the pun was funny as hell

I gave it a 6 also, I liked it somewhat but its nice to see somebody trying something different even if they can't completely pull it off.
