This was surprisingly good...

Damn decent and solid film noir. The plot was and narrative was great, complicated yet simple(a lot better than any of the big studio movies I've seen at the cinema lately). Cast and acting great(nice to see some old faces again that's been absent for a while, like Delroy Lindo and William Fitchner), almost every little bit part was done by a well known actor/actress. And on top of that, very nicely shot.
Only thing that bugged me a bit was the end scene( Why the hell would he bring the cafe girl, with him? The girl he just fcked, while on pursuit for the love of his life?).
Still, highly recommended.

Yeah, I was surprised by how engaging it was. The first 5 or 10 minutes are sh!te, but man, it gets good.

What's in the first 5 or 10 minutes?

it was ok i guess...anyway by the end of the movie i was still scratching my head at some things and i still don't see the meaning or the message of the movie all that well, the story was somewhat odd i think; whatever, the point is that it's good enough if you want to think a little at a movie and if you don't expect to understand absolutely everything

A lot of characters are introduced with no character development.

Gotcha, thanks for the reply.

The writer just ripped off the first pages of "Farewell My Lovely" by Raymond Chandler and used them as a beginning for his script so it didn't come from nowhere but not from his own mind either. And he added a little nod to Robert Aldrich's adaptation of Mickey Spillane's "Kiss Me Deadly" at the end too.

You just named two pieces of literature from 1940 and 1955 so it's safe to assume 99.9% of the audience wouldn't recognize it for what you described. It sure didn't detract from the film.

Hell yeah!

I liked it, indeed, you're absolutely right - the movie was surprisingly good.

I agree, this film was better than I expected. It's a very unusual mix of Science and Film Noir. Worth watching if you like something offbeat. My only real gripe was that Antonio Banderas mumbled some of his lines. And no matter how many times I replayed them I still couldn't understand what he said. But it's just a small gripe, overall the film was enjoyable and I would recommend it. It's no classic but it's a decent little film.

Yes, decent movie and fine example of noir.
It's flawed, but very original.
Worth a watch.
7/10

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)
