Why do some people blame the chaperones?

I cannot understand how anyone can think that the chaperones have any responsibility for what happened.

1) They cannot be everywhere and watching everybody at once.
2) Many (if not all) of the students were 18. 18 is the legal age of an adult.
3) The legal drinking age in Aruba is 18, parents were informed of that.
4) The trip took place after graduation. So, what authority would they really have?
5) The parents were told that they were not going to be baby-sitters, they were there mainly to arrange/organize the group.

Knowing all the facts, the parents still paid for the trips and allowed their kids to go on this trip anyway.

To date the only person who is responsible for Natalee's disappearance is Natalee herself. Next, Beth Twitty is to blame because of the way she treated everyone on Aruba. No one wanted to help her or Natalee after Beth went to that island and acted like everyone owed her something.

Beth and Jug went into a restaurant on Aruba one night with 8 friends who came to the island. After they had a very expensive meal of lobster and other seafood, Jug refused to pay the bill. He told the waitress that he was Jug Twitty and he wasn't paying for anything while on the island. The manager finally came over and told him that he or someone at that table was going to pay the bill or they would be arrested.

The bill was finally paid, but not by that jerk Jug.

If anyone is responsible it is most likely Joran for giving an intoxicated girl a powerful depressent drug, a lifethreatening combination. It's not like Natalie was with some local, he was an expat European guy that at least she thought wouldn't kill her like a bandito. Unfortunately she was wrong, most likely Joran had "gone native" and picked up the callous disregard for human life in most of the 3rd world. In Alabama, the cops would have gotten to the bottom of this, in Aruba the thing was fixed from the start. Natalie was young and niaave and didn't realize that most expat guys are of very low moral character despite the fact that they look just like the guys back home. If that is how it went down I don't even know why Joran would need to use a date rape drug as it seemed she was going to sleep with him anyway. There is a slim chance he did abandon her on the beach as he said, which in itself would be irresponsible for an expat with street smarts. But all the evasion, the changing stories, the delay so he could clean up any evidence points to the fact that most likely he was involved in her death.

In the movie New Moon, Bella is stupid enough to get on the back of a motorcycle with a creepy looking guy. Jessica tells Bella not to be stupid and get on the back of a motorcycle and ride off with a creepy looking guy.

I couldn't help but think of Natalee when I saw that scene. She was stupid...period. No one else to blame but her. We don't know what happened after she got in that car, but we do know that she was stupid and slutty enough to get in and leave her friends.

She was asking for trouble and she found it.

I put some blame on the parents and chaperones. ummm...hello...sure the drinking age is 18, but it isn't that way in Alabama dumb ass. The kids were allowed to just do whatever the hell they wanted. Do the parents let them behave like that in their homes in Alabama????? So, why is it people think that just because something is legal in another country, then it is safe to participate? DUMB PEOPLE.
