If you own this, it goes in the 'Drama' category

Unbelieveble this is the second movie I had placed in drama because of IMDB, and I go to watch something funny and uplifting and get a cancer drama, seriously? If you want a pick me up with belly aching laughs this is not it.

reply

Do you feel misled by the fact that IMDB categorizes this as both, a comedy and a drama? I mean, did you pick this up based solely on the first genre tag, while ignoring not only the second tag, but also the movie's plot synopsis? Are you now upset because you unexpectedly watched a movie about a cancer patient, even though said movie is openly and clearly described as being about a cancer patient? Am I understanding your situation correctly?

I just didn't find the material funny, I found the material quite serious and sad. The description says a 'comedy', I think it would have been better with a description of 'light hearted drama', because I didn't get one laugh in, and frankly I laugh at just about anything usually.

I'm fine with your opinion on the movie, really, I just don't think it's reasonable to put the blame on the IMDB tags for being misleading, considering that right below the tags, the plot synopsis reveals that the movie is indeed about a person battling cancer.
As for the movie not being funny, well, it's a matter of taste. I did have fun with some of the lines, but overall, I thought it went too far in the Seth Rogen/bro humor direction, which has gotten stale for me by now.

I laughed my ass off the whole time. Well, not true, but this is a comedy, not a drama

Literally just your opinion. There are scenes that are objectively funny, that doesn't mean that every scene will be funny, but there are scenes that are funny and even if you don't laugh at them yourself, unless you're socially autistic, you can find humor in.

Communism was just a Red herring!

The proper subgenre would be 'Dramedy' or 'Tragicomedy'. Basically it's a drama about serious subject matter, but it treats it in a light-hearted way. Or if you like, a comedy with a serious plot. Essentially it uses the comedy to lighten the tension and the drama to show that something serious is going on. The typical structure of a dramedy will push the dramatic stuff to the forefront in the third act.

I know, tell OP.

What were you expecting from the plot? 'Dude, where's my cancer' ?.

It still has plenty of humor in it considering.
