Bakery owner (spoilers)

Does anyone know what evidence the government convicted the bakery owner on? In other words, did he really commit the murder? Or was he indeed innocent as he claimed? It's hard for me to picture him as a cold-blooded murderer (perhaps it was justifiable homicide, e.g. self-defense?), but then again it's hard for me to picture any of the featured gang members as murderers. I'd really like to know more about his case.

To my understanding, it was hear/say with witnesses. Murder has no statute of limitations.
