Dude its a benchmark film for Indian audience.. Don't even attempt to compare it with a full fledged English film, which a majority of them are made with a much bigger budget enabling the usage of much better attempts to enhance its graphics. I'm neither a die hard fan of Rajini nor one of Shankar but i myself am very pleased with the outcome of the movie. It was a very plausible attempt at making a science fiction film for the Indian audience. If not for its commercial elements this movie has a very good possibility of making it into the circles of international sci-fy film circuit. So for gods sake appreciate the hard work of the people involved in this film and do not criticize and pick it apart unless your certain of flaming one might get doing so. Don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their own opinion but judging on ones personal opinion is not very pleasant.

What you said is absolutely childish. Appreciating the hard work is one side, but you have to appreciate true cinema. Even though Endhiran is first SCI FI, movie is completely SUCKS. I don't care how much hard effort they have put in for this movie, but movie really disappoints at many levels.
You mean true cinema like art films where we have to see poverty, and village and struggle? Avatar wasn't either a realistic cinema, made purely to entertain and nothing else.
Shankar did well, move had powerpacked dialogues also, normally you need a much bigger budget to make it perfect, but with the availability he did it well, had a good story about making a robot to use it in warefare in the future that could save thousands of lives. Out of the box thinking and making entertaining films seems to be a crime in India.
I am talking about straightforward Sci fi film. I am not seeing any realism in sci fi film. No fools in the world would look reality in sci fi. All sci fi are meant to be either entertain or educative. But I find Endhiran as so rubbish and childish. Shankar did this movie as if a 5 year old kid made a movie. Horrible, atrocious, especially, mosquito scene, i couldn't sit in theater, i thought of walking away. Second half of the movie was completely garbage.

I agree entirely, It was a well crafted film for its budget that was available and it was highly entertaining, I'm not from India but I've appreciated the ambition and effort it went into making Aci_fi action thriller, rajnikanth was natural as a robot. Chitti the robot was much more funnier than Arnold in Terminator. lol

The ironical was we hired Hollywood technicians but we delivered it poorly and say "Indian first sci fi film". That's pathetic and shame. CGI works are better in amman movies than in Endhiran. Stan Winston and Industrial Light & Magic are very professionals. But Shankar isn't talented director to work with them. This movie is best example. You may have all best crews in the world in film making but if you don't have good and intelligent director, all those best crews would become useless. Shankar wasted the opportunity. His script was awful. CGI wasn't equal to any of Hollywood movies. So, stop creating idiotic hype and grow up and atleast, act like an adult.

You guys want reasons for why the film is bad? Here are some of mine...
While the movie did have it's moments (my favourite was when Rajnikanth attracted all the metal of the thugs to his body, then reconfigured it to look like a god) the overall movie was extremely disappointing.
First, I refuse to call him SUPERSTAR Rajnikanth. I cannot understand the sheer adulation people have for him. He's a good actor. He's a good human being. He's NOT a devta, not a god, not a superman. Because of their love for him, most of his fans refuse to even see the bad points of his movie.
For instance, Aishwarya is almost gang-raped in one scene. In the next scene, when the robot's face is being repaired, she is laughing and smiling, talking about how cool he was when he saved her. She was almost GANG-RAPED! Shouldn't she be a little more traumatized? Or are rape attempts considered 'normal'?
This happens AGAIN in the movie! She flirts with a random guy to make her boyfriend jealous. Then the guy she flirts with tries to rape her! She and her boyfriend manage to escape, then break into laughter! And sing a song!
This completely devalues the serious implications of rape, real or attempted. Women who face this normally are shattered at the ease with which their bodies can be violated. They face trauma. PLEASE don't say that this is 'just' a movie. In India, many, many people cannot make that basic differentiation. What they see on screen, they try to emulate in real life.
Back to the attempted gang-rape. The robot is shown to be made of metal. One punch from him can and should break bones. He's shown repeatedly punching, kicking and mauling normal human beings in the train. They just fall down and then get back up! Are his hands made of stuffed feathers? Why does he have to hit them so many times? Simple answer, 'because it looks COOL'.
No, no, it doesn't. You devalue the power of the damn robot. When a Terminator hits a human, it stays hit. Its a robot against a fleshy human. When the robot in this film hits someone, they apparently can get back up. And hit back.
The people who the robot beats up in the train are seen again, on their balcony. One of them has a broken arm, most have bruises and bandages. Again, these are people who were hit by a robot with metal arms and legs. They should be dead.
What's worse, these are people who cheerfully attempted a GANG-RAPE! Why aren't they in prison? All this movie tells you is that if you attempt to rape a woman, the worst that can happen is that you'll be beaten up. No prison time for you, you young scamp!
While the entire movie was boring (with a few good/great scenes), this element is what really stuck in my craw. This is not a super-hit. This is not a great movie. It's barely passable, with a horrible, insidious way of portraying rape. One star. Out of ten.

shareI watched it yesterday and while I dont see this as rajni's or shankar's best, i think it had its moments...Regarding the train scene, I dont think she was gonna be raped or in other words how can you assert she was gonna be raped..i think she was gonna be taken some photos and let go, those guys werent really gang rapists..while i dont think the entire scene and the follow ups were quite what would happen 'in real', but the point was to show the robot 'growing' and its attachment to her n we get it..

At last, one sane person among countless retards. Yes, this is a PATHETIC movie. After hearing heaps of praises for this movie, I went to watch it with high expectations, as after all, I'm a Rajni fan myself. But alas, I was disappointed. Wanted to spit on the screen but finally controlled myself.
To all of you who call this Endhiran junk a benchmark for tamil movies, ARE YOU MAD? Do you guys even know what a benchmark movie is?
And to all of you who say this shouldn't be compared to a Hollywood movie that has a bigger budget, I'd say "Get your head examined."
Budget has nothing to do with a film's quality. I can give you many examples for classic Hollywood movies made on a budget which is much much lesser than Endhiran.
1)Winter's Bone(2010) - It was made on a budget of a mere 2 million dollars, which would equal to Rs.10.3 crore(which is not even close to 1/10th of Endhiran's budget)
2)Following(1998) - Christopher Nolan's first film, and a brilliant one. It was made on a budget of just 6000 dollars. Now what do you guys have to say to that?
3)The Usual Suspects(1995) - A classic thriller. Made on a budget of just 6 million dollars which would equal Rs. 30 crore.
4)The Terminator(1984) - All of you must be knowing this. It was made on a budget approx. equal to 35-40 crores.
I can even give examples of many tamil movies that were made on a budget much lesser than that of Endhiran but are infinitely better movies than this junk Endhiran.

etc etc

Bottomline is that budget is not a factor in determining the quality of movies. there are many other hollywood movies with shoe-string budgets I can give as an example. Citing budget as a reason for giving out junk in the name of movies is a pathetic excuse.
