I don't get indian cinema

First of all, I'm not trying to bash India.
But all the music, all the dancing, the senseless fights, horrible camerawork, the dialog, I get none of it.
It's just that I've seen movies from several different countries/cultures, and indian filmmakers seem to just aim to make the craziest, most inexplicable movies ever known.
Everything is so detached from reality, so insane and devoid of explanation or logic, and this seems to be present in every indian film. It's like everyone is racing to do the worst possible movie, instead of best.
Is there any cultural explanation for this? Why are countries like Japan, South Korea, China, Brazil producing quality cinema and India just churning out constant craziness?

Detached from reality?

Almost every single top grossing movie in Hollywood isn't realistic too

reply

All generalizations are false. :P

That's true, but what the OP probably means is that indians go overboard.

Enough is enough! I have had it with these monkey fighting snakes on this Monday thru Friday plane!

There are many fantastic Indian movies, but they are not hits. I'm not from India, or an Indian, but I have ''friends'' from India on social networks. As I've learnd so far, masala movies are most popular, like superhero movies in the USA. Those are movies where you can find everything: drama, comedy, action, romance, thriller, music, dance in groups etc. And the running time is at least 3 hours.

I'm an Indian and I don't get it too. Apparently whatever Bollywood makes, Indians watch it and because of the population the movies usually always profit. So filmmakers always produce the lowest common denominator and never try to innovate or try to be original.
The producer himself said that most of the budget for "biggest budgeted Bollywood movie ever" went to the actors so don't even try to tell me that the CG was good and people tried. This movie is absolutely *beep*
