Martian's needed helmets to breath on their own planet?

Aside from that glitch I didn't appreciate, I actually really enjoyed this film. I'm a women and I wasn't offended by the way they portrayed the mother. Why don't people understand feminism? A woman can be a home-maker if that is her choice, and a man can be a home-maker too. One word: equality.

Either the Martians wre not form Mars originally, or their planet has died out and tey remain now in Domed Cities to keep them alive after sem sort of Ecological Disaster. So not exactly a plothole, justunexplained.

what bothered me was that you could wear pyjamas or lounge clothes outside but as long as you put on a helmet you were fine, if i remeber correctly

Previous actual discoveries about Mars, does suggest that there once might have been air on Mars Millions of years ago and even water on the surface.
So with this animation, the Martians might have lived on the surface a long time ago, but due to something natural called stellar drift, Mars moved further away from the Sun, plant life died, breathable air got thin and the Martians had to move beneath the surface in order to survive.

Disney how ever have to explain to people, how they believe that some one with out a protective spacesuit can survive on the surface of Mars.
