Berke "Bloom County" Breathed

I've never seen this movie, but I'm a HUGE Bloom County fan. I know this is based on a book by Berke Breathed, the same guy who did Bloom County and Outland. I've never read the book, but I read "A Wish for Wings That Work" and thought the TV adaptation was pretty good.

How is this, compared to the book? How is it compared to "A Wish for Wings That Work" (if you've seen it, of course)?

And most importantly, does anyone have any insight as to Mr. Breathed's thoughts on this film? Is he proud of it? Hate it? Just a paycheck?

I'm curious about the Berkeley Breathed connection, in other words.

Breathed apparently was at Comic Con this year and had this to say, as described by Wired:

"Also playing a big role in the strip’s revival: The failure of 2011’s Mars Needs Moms, an overpriced adaptation of one of Breathed’s post-Bloom County hit books. The film version, produced by Robert Zemeckis—”one of my favorite filmmakers,” Breathed said—was a disaster that cost Disney almost $200 million. “It nearly shut down the entire studio,” Breathed said, noting the movie was supposed to be a comic adventure, not a serious science-fiction film.”[There] was disappointment in having people you believed in make fundamentally ridiculous mistakes that you had no control of.”
