why cast carlos mencia? i think that was a mistake

I agree with other post George Lopez would have been a better choice. Not only does Carlos mencia not seem old enough to be America's father(I saw the trailer)but he does not have mass audience appeal. In reality most people don't like him or his comedy. I believe his casting will be a turn off for most viewers, at least it is for me. I want to see this movie(familiar story line with a different angle that i think i would find funny) but i feel hesitant because of him, he dosnt seem to fit. I mean Forest Whitaker, America Ferrera, Regina King those are great actors. This seems to be his first big acting role so I think this is also a gamble not worth taking. How well can he act? Will he create/immerse himself into a whole new character or just be himself as this character. I dont know, only time will tell. I will most likely wait to rent it or wait till more reviews come out to see if it worth buying a ticket. By the way I am a mexican american female and don't like his standup, my boyfriend is white and dosn't like his stand up and I know MANY MANY people agree of all races and ages, not that that really matters just saying before people come conclusions about my post.

Carlos does an amazing job in the film. He's funny and his acting is really good. Those who have seen the film have rated him very high. Keep an open mind. I think he will surprise you!

I just saw the trailer for this film and was coming on here to say something similar.

I am not a fan of Mencia's work, and was taken aback seeing him in this movie. However, the movie looks great and is a good concept. Perhaps I'll overlook him being in it.

I'll also overlook the fact that Regina is playing the mom of Lance Gross, who is about 10 years her junior if I'm not mistaken...

Oh well. No movie is perfect I suppose.

I just saw this movie today and I have to say, I was impressed. Carlos was even enjoyable to watch and Forrest is really funny. I was also relieved that Regina didn't play Lance Gross' mother. This was a nice movie. Just right for a mid day matinee.

Funny, there are plenty of Latino actors but I was thinking at one point if they wanted a comedian why didn't they get George Lopez. He's a better fit. Mencia's a bit of a turn off for me but I also really just can't see him as a father. You're right, Ferrera, Whitaker, King, all great choices...but Mencia? Odd choice.

I'm not a Puerto Rican but I'm speakin' so that you know.

I can't believe they cast Mencia in this either, what with all the extremely bad press he's gotten over the last couple years.

He's been accused of repeatedly plagiarizing jokes from other comedians (with video evidence to boot!), had his Comedy Central show unceremoniously cancelled. got lampooned by collegehumor AND South Park -- it's incredible he has any career left! I was truly shocked when I saw him in this trailer.

That said, his presence is perhaps not as inexplicable as Forest Whitaker's. Really? He won an Oscar for The Last King of Scotland, and now he's doing THIS?

Do the producers have a shot of him doing coke off a hooker's ass or what? Why did he sign up for this?!

I agree George Lopez would have been a better fit age-wise, but I like both comedians and I LOVE America Ferrera, so I'm looking forward to this movie.

^BS. George Lopez is miles ahead of unfunny Mencia, who he btw stole Lopez's jokes from and George punched Carlos in the face for it(And rightfully so)

Lopez would have been perfect in this role. I'm surprised Mencia is still getting work after his horrible racist show. He's a hack and joke thief. After this movie is out and forgotten, I won't have to see your face again on my tv. Good riddance Carlos!

I don't think it was a mistake. Hmmm movie that highlights the stereotypes of blacks and latinos. Oh yeah, I can see how they thought to cast Carlos Mencia lol. George Lopez probably would not want to be in this movie anyway.

I didn't care much for Mind of Mencia, but he was awesome in "The Heartbreak Kid." Ironically, I didn't care much for that movie either, but he was a bright spot.
