The acting of the guy who plays the serial killer mom

is just terrible. Been watching this on Fearnet on demand and liking it, but that guy's horrible performance really drags the show down. I believe he is one of the writers and creators of the show, so good work there, but stay behind the camera!

I think Reece is fantastic as Maureen, and to be honest I can't think of a bad performance from anyone.

Think Reece makes a surprisingly convincing old women!

He also played the "not now silent singer" guy

"stay behind the camera"

assuming you're not a troll: Do you know who you're talking about? He's one of the founding members of the League of Gentlemen, where he's played over a hundred memorable major characters in drag, prosthetics, costumes etc.

Of course he plays mostly cartoonish horror movie archetypes/ deranged maniacs, but he gives them a lot of depth. I defy you to find another actor who can play characters that grotesque and sympathetic. He also plays Mr. Jelly.

He also plays Mr. Jelly.

How the hell could I forget Mr Jelly when I said that he also played the not now silent singer guy

I have frequently enjoyed his Tina. His wife no longer speaks to me because of it.

I just found out about this show weeks ago through Fear Net and I love it as much or more then "Lost." I also want to check out the show, "League of Gentlemen" I'm trying to download it. I think the Reece guy is really great at playing the mom. I can't see or understand someone saying he is bad. I don't even know the actor but can see he is talented and brings great character personality to the part. He talks well and moves in sync with his lines acting the scenes out perfectly as a twisted mom of David. I didnt know he also played Mr Jelly. That makes me even more impressed. I must check out his other stuff.

What is League of Gentlemen like?

reply

League of Gentlemen is a black comedy series that started off as a sketch comedy surrounding the bizarre inhabitants of a town, but it got more complex by virtue of the storytelling... It was a lot more tightly written than psychoville, in many ways. Every joke and sight gag they threw in worked on its own while also showing how everyone in the town were interconnected in one way or the other. Also there were many instances where the punchlines actually developed the plot. It was very innovative with its format for its time.

Beyond all the bizarre prosthetic make up and costumes, they actually developed the characters in the town to the point in which you started caring for them, even while the plot became more outlandish and creepy, essentially turning the show into a surreal horror/ drama show as well as a comedy. The plotlines were also developed a lot more naturally than Psychoville, everything seemed to fall into place naturally as you slowly got the big picture.

It's a local show for local people, we'll have no trouble here!

Seriously though, if you like Psychoville then you should definitely watch the League of Gentlemen, it's the same sort of thing but better and has the fabulous Mark Gatiss as a member of the line up.

Plus you'll understand what the heck I'm going on about in the first bit of this post

What are you talking about man? Shearsmith is absolutely fantastic as Maureen, and she`s one of the best characters in Psychoville. These guys are brilliant at transforming and becoming these characters and giving them depth...they make you kinda like and sympathize with these creepy and odd characters.

I am frankly baffled at this comment.

I think he might be one of the most talented actors in the world.

Especially from his League of Gentlemen days, Papa Lazarou/Sexy Woman, especially.
