Two new episodes on DVD

Two adaptations not yet available in print translations in English. Wish they were--all of them. I went through this with Patrick O'Brian; until the mid 80's his books were only available in the UK, and it was much harder to order from there than now. I hope that happens eventually with Parot; he's at least as good a writer.
These are darker stories. The callow young king and his foolish wife are nowhere near as shrewd as Louis XV, and the factions he kept in check are running wild and threatening the peace of the kingdom. Le Floch seems to feel powerless to stop them.

THE ENGLISH CADAVER - While investigating the murder of a mysterious fugitive, Nicolas Le Floch is personally asked by the king to recover a stolen flute that was intended as a gift for Austria. The flute holds important symbolic value and is needed to cement France's alliance with Austria in a looming war against England.

THE DROWNED MAN - After returning from a naval battle against the English, Le Floch draws the ire of the King's cousin for exposing his incompetence while in command of the French fleet. The incensed cousin launches an elaborate plot to destroy Le Flochs reputation, along with that of the entire royal court.
