They're still making power rangers?

Dang! I remember them from 1993!

[deleted]

no and yes and no :P
You must have a very good memory if you can remember it from 1993, as it wasn't out until 1994 :P
However the guys who made the show helped Disney buy the channel that screened it or something, and the rights for Power Rangers transferred to Disney. Disney's version isn't that different, and of the Disney version I've only seen Power Rangers: Dino Thunder, which is better than the original shows, and has the return of Tommy.

reply

actually it did come out in 93, and there are at least 30 years of episodes in the Japanese version that the american version can go with. So I doubt it will be ending any time soon.

NICE IF THEY COULD DUB SUPER SENTAI NOW THAT ITS CANCELED
OR SUBTITLED
I MEAN WE GET THAT WITH FOREIGN FILMS ALL THE TIME AND ANIMATION ITS EASIER TO DO WITH THEN FILMS SO WHY NOT
IT WOULDVE BEEN NICE IF THEY ADDED MORE AND MORE OF THEIR ORIGINAL MATERIAL TO IT TO THE POINT OF MAKING THEIR OWN ORIGINAL TEAMS WITHOUT RIPPING OFF OF SUPER SENTAI BUT THEY CHICKENED OUT WITH SAYING THE MOVIE WAS FAKE AND SWITCHING TO ALIEN RANGERS
ALIEN RANGERS WAS ORIGINAL IN THAT IT SHOWED THE ALIENS THEMSELVES BUT THEN THEY USED JAPANESE KAKURANGER WHEN THEY GOT THRU ALL OF SEASON 2 WITHOUT USING ANY DAIRANGER FOOTAGE BESIDES FOR WHITE RANGER AND THAT STILL WASNT MUCH AND COULDVE EVEN POTENTIALLY EXTENDED USE OF THE DINOZORDS INDEFINITELY WITH NEW ORIGINAL FOOTAGE MADE JUST FOR AMERICAN MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS BUT NEVER USED
ID STILL LIKE THEM TO DO THAT IF POSSIBLE
IF NOT SABAN THEN AT LEAST SEE WHAT DISNEY CAN DO
ITS ALSO STUPID HOW DISNEY CAN GET BEHIND KILLING PEOPLE DURING WORLD WAR 2 BUT BE RELUCTANT TO SHOW LAME WATERED DOWN VIOLENCE TO 7 YEAR OLDS WHEN 2 YEAR OLDS WATCH SHOWS WITH ALL MATURITY AND NO CENSORING
THE WAY IT SHOULD BE
DONT DISCRIMINATE PUTTING UP WALLS TELLING CHILDREN THEY CANT DO THIS AND THAT
EDUCATE TELLING CHILDREN THE TRUTH THAT ITS JUST A SHOW FOR ENTERTAINMENT
SO ITD BE COOL IF DISNEY GREW UP AND IS THE MAN IT WAS BACK IN THE DAY WHEN WALT WAS ALIVE AND IN CHARGE THEN AT THE PETTY WHIMS PARANOID AND EGOTISTICAL PARENTS
BUT I DIGRESS
WHEN MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS ITS JUST LIKE GANDHI SAYS
FIRST THEY WILL IGNORE YOU: PEOPLE IGNORED IT (FIRST FEW EPISODES)
THEN THEY WILL LAUGH AT YOU: PEOPLE LAUGHED AT HOW STUPID IT WAS (AROUND GREEN WITH EVIL)
THEN THEY WILL HATE YOU: PEOPLE HATED HOW VIOLENT IT WAS (GREEN WITH EVIL TO BEGINNING OF SEASON 2)
AND THEN YOU WIN: SABAN GAVE INTO A FEW PARENTS SILLY PARANOIA AND COUNTRIES NOT SHOWING IT EVEN THO ITS NOT MEANT FOR THEM ANYWAY THE ENSLAVED COUNTRIES WITH NO FREEDOM CAN WATCH DORA THE EXPLORER IF THEY WANT TO AMERICA IS GROWN UP AND HAS THE GODFATHER LOLZ
I MEAN SUPER SENTAI DOESNT WATER ITSELF DOWN BECAUSE SOME PARENTS ARE CONCERNED OVER IT OR TO DO BETTER INTERNATIONALLY AND IT IS DEMANDED FOR INTERNATIONALLY BY THE PEOPLE BECAUSE IT DOESNT CARE WHAT PEOPLE THINK BUT JUST PUTS ON A GOOD SHOW LIKE YOURE SUPPOSED TO

Good lord, man, turn off your caps lock, or keep your finger off the shift key(s).

reply

Don't know where you live, but it came out in August 1993 in the states.
As much as I have watched the rangers over the years, I wish they had just dubbed the japanese versions and been done with it.

I'm only 15,and I feel old thinking about a new season. Can they come up with something more interesting?I'd love a season dedicated to mythology and the paranormal.Like a vampire, ghost and werewolf ranger.Unless the whole werewolf/wolf thing is too much like RJ.

Killing folks is easy being;politically correct is pain in the ass-Achmed the Dead Terrorist

reply

First I gotta say amen to the Tommys return for Dino Thunder, between that and this last season of PR they are the only seasons i have seen all the way through since the originals, in 94.

UNfortunately this season will be one I will miss willingly,, the Costumes and Vehicles look cheesy, ((ther ware some pictures of the Vehicles,, cars with faces of the animals the Rangers Represent)) Theres only 1 ranger spirit (dont ask) that seems new to the group and thats the Red Eagle Ranger the rest weve seen done, Such as Yellow Bear, Blue Shark, Black Wolf. So its not worth it.

reply

I was pumped to see Tommy back for dino Thunder.A season isn't complete without someoen badass like him.I remember seeing some Mighty Morphin' episodes when I was little, but I don't remember much after that.I do remember seeing some Lightspeed and Time Force.Thne Dino Thunder got me back, but SPD pulled me back a bit.I'm going to willing miss this one also, everything does seem so over used.So I skipped around a lot.(Dino Thunder,Time Force and In Space might be the only seasons I seen all of.I didn't see all of the others)

Yeah, this season isn't worth it.Can they get some better ideas or something?I don't want to see anymore animal or ninja related seasons for a long long time. And no more cell phone looking morphers. At least not for a while. How about fan suggested ideas for seasons,if they are going to go off for something different?

reply

Yeah,this season isn't worth it.

Since you have zero idea what the season will be like beyond what the rangers, morphers and zords look like, you can't really say that.

reply

i think it would be interesting but, they could only fight at night cuz of the vamp.

they really are running out of ideas that seem interesting. i know they still have stuff they can use since there are 30+ years of PR in japan. but still.

and btw i DID like the werewolf thing with RJ. \m/ \m/ ::throws the horn for the zen/surferlike wisdom of the RJ.

and in refference the main idea of the thread. yes, and i'm still happy they do. i remember watching the premier of the first episode when i was little. and i'm still a PR nerd to this day :-D

reply

I remember them too.
I watched them all the way till Lost Galaxy.

That season and all the ones after have just sucked too much.

I dunno if it's cause I got older or what. But I blame it on the fact they never kept anyone around for more than one season after Rangers in Space ended.

reply

The replacement of the characters was what killed it for me. I had just gotten over the loss of all my pals of the last few years (Tommy, Adam, Kat, Tanya respectavely) and now, once In Space makes me ok with the characters that replaced them, they get chucked out the door. Or bay hatch since I guess they're still Space Rangers somewhere out in the PR universe. ;D

That's not to say I don't still enjoy Power Rangers. I rejoined the fandom somewhere in S.P.D., have seen every season since, and consider myself partially devistated that it is coming to an end (as we know it at least). I do like how the Rangers aren't tied to one place (what was so special about Angel Grove anyway???). The Rangers can be where the evil is. It really opens up the world as they say. But, being the continutiy whore that I am, nothing will ever really replace those first six years for me.

reply

Yeah...I could be wrong, but it seems like they are running out of ideas. I mean, Dino Thunder (which was cool) seemed to mirror Mighty Morphin a little bit. And this new RPM is kind of like Turbo to me. SPD (love it) was a little similar to Lightspeed Rescue...I think Disney's trying to remake what was already done before they owned the rights. Jungle Fury=Wild Force...? Whatever. I'll be keeping an eye out for RPM. I am interested to see what it's all about.

reply

Yeah some of them did echo past seasons in a way.
PRDT had echo of MMPr since the high school angle.
And PRSPD similar to PRLSR because of the work for the government, or whatever.
Haven't seen PRJF so can't judge that..but I liked PRWF, so that sounds okay.

The only season that I really hated, well 2 of them, were PRMF and PROO.
Magic and androids....searching for crystals.
WTF?!?!

All the others I can sort of just pop in and watch random eps and not be bored. But those two, send me straight into sleep mode!

You don't want to mess with Juanita!!
And I am not a stalker!!

reply

it will only be like turbo if they totally eff it up. oh and there is no scheme by disney to remake the older series. they only do the themes that occur in the original japanese series. i really really hope they have the vehicles be sentient.

reply

Okay Disney/Saban are dependent on the original Japanese show for the costume designs.

Visit supersentai.com

Anyway Disney hasnt really done power rangers too wrong except give it barely enough episodes per season. They used to be able to reach 50 episodes per season and now they're barely hitting 30. Other then that your favorite characters have probably been out of play for years(long before disney bough the rights).

reply

I am a 62 year old person. While the Power Rangers series is sort or repeditive in each episode with the fighting and pyrotechnics and such, I do not find it boring either. The producers and scriptwriters of these shows have found a formula to succeed with each show. I do not know how to really describe that fomula but it is a sort of "building up" those who are weak against those who are more powerful with some kind of quest to get more powers to conquer the more powerful with amazing new powers and keep repeating this cycle within a series many times and guess what; it works and keeps my interest because the script writers pull this off succesfully. On top of this, the optical and digital effects while sometimes cheesy come off A-OK because our minds are made to accept this "reality" as a sort of entertainment and a sort of "neato" thing.
The TOEI company pulls this off quite great year after year and just gets better at it all the time. I remember a series from the 1960's; CAPTAIN SCARLET AND THE MYSTERONS, an English production using "Super Marionation, and marvelous pyrotechics that made it a nifty series for that time. The POWER RANGER series have a resemblance to Republic Pictures serials of the 1930s as well but at this moment I cannot remember as to what quite that resemblance is other than some pyrotechnics use and some daredeviling but I have seen some resemblance to those serials deployed, oh like a rousing final ending just like in the end of JUNGLE FURY and other POWER RANGER's series which you will find in a lot of REPUBLIC snd for that matter UNIVERSAL serials of the 30s as well. I would not doubt for a minute that the producers of POWER RANGERS picked up on some of this from those serials much as George Lucas picked it up as well for STAR WARS. I do think that the producers of POWER RANGERS put alot of work into these shows and have done so all these many years which is more than I can say for alot of kids and adult shows.

reply

Stop blaming Disney for the similarities. The basic premise of each series is decided upon by Toei.

reply

the plot talks about a machine Army. That just reminds me of PR:Zeo.

You're just a wet blanket on my fire of fun!!

reply

Yeah, These Power Rangers seasons are pretty much not worth watching. I remember all the series's up to Lost Galaxy had a great plot and story. And great characters to go along with it. Disney is just using a popular series like PR to profit from toys. Its pretty much milking everything the franchise has to make money off of toys. So what they do is dont even worry about having a great plot. or anything. They just worry about adding a ton of toys and weapons, and alot of really cheesy stuff. It's sad. This franchise was a power house back in the day, now its down to this.

*sighs*

well time to jump into this and i am sure my opinions will be unpopular but hey

first let me boil something down which some of you may recongize from one of my own threads but it is necessary to explain my opinions.

1)MMPR 10/10 super corny but the first and a special place in my heart
2)MMPR(thunder zords) 10/10 things got much better and well white tiger thunder zord (my all time fave to date)

3)MMPR 10/10 (this includes the ninja zords) wow i enjoyed this big time
4) PRZ 7/10 still liked them in this season
5) PRT 2/10 ugh sucked badly but hey every series has its off seasons right?
6)PRIS 10/10 the restoration of my faith here wonderful season.
7)PRLG 10/10 loved this season.
8)PRLSR 10/10 another season i loved
9)PRTF 8/10 not a big fan of time travel
10) PRWF 8/10 once i gave it a chance it was decent
11)PRNS 10/10 once i gave it a chance it was great
12) PRDT 5/10 the original pizzazza was not there but an ok attempt
13)PRSPD 5/10 a police squad ugh
14) PRMF 10/10 superb season(this is one of the things i know i will be unpopular for)
15) PROO 3/10 that is generous
16) PRJF 10/10 great season that just passed

now onto my opinions and answering the question at hand

yes they are making power rangers still not the old style we remember but lets be completely truthful saban chopped up the super sentais badly and strayed away from certain things because of the nature of the usa. Example Jason david frank was popular so he was depowered i heard in the super sentais green ranger made the ultimate sacrifice. Secondly well i am not sure about other types of content but saban really butchered the sentais in bringing them over here. is disney better hmmm probably not BUT to say the disney versions are a bastardization is unfair they actually have better actors/actresses than the original seasons not saying much but still and disney has not dragged out any version more than one season no matter how much i have wanted it to be so (Mystic force please step forward). The drama in the seasons has gone up to a certain extent MF had the whole dark secret about the main hero's father being a lieutenant of the villains(yeah i know darth vader sheesh). KikiJuanita PROO i agree but mystic force not so much and the fact disney has taken over the franchise i think has done more GOOD than harm. so to answer it yes they are TRULY still making power rangers and better than ever and from what i have learned in the thread MANY MORE YEARS TO COME.

sincerely,

Ryoko

reply

The producers of Power Ranger are scrapping the bottem of the barrel at this point. We are now back to the future agian. The Power Rangers is a property that won't die.

reply

Ryoko, I don't know what it was about PRMF.
There was just something about it that I didn't like.
I don't mind magical shows...but it was like this one they tried to make too kiddish. Sure I know it is a kids show, but there was just so many weird plot lines in it and I felt that it was too rushed. Maybe if they had done 40 eps...I know it wasn't this many...then it may have had a little more chance of being understandable.
Then again, on the complete season of DVD that I got from the UK it's hard to follow anyway...because the first 4 discs are the exact same ones that they released as the single volumes, and then the rest of the discs are the other eps. So they're not in the correct order as they were on TV. Which does make it extrremley hard to follow.

Maybe one day when I have the time, I will sit down with the ep listing, and watch the DVD eps in the correct order.

Juanita is locked away now, where she can do no harm!!

reply

From what I heard Jungle Fury was supposed to be the last season but they had to make RPM because of something to do with merchandise. So RPM may be the end or PR.

reply

It is. It has been verified by some magazine in New Zealand, the place where it is filmed, and an article in the New York post. Sad way to end it too because except for people like us to read the fan boards no one will know it's ending, and despite it's highs and lows, it was a good show.

reply

Have you guys actually WATCHED some of the newer ones? S.P.D. was pretty great. Had some flaws, but it was one of the better seasons.

Actually, as far as that goes, prior to Disney buying that block of shows, Time Force was the strongest season aside from Space-and Time Force was after Lost Galaxy...

But anyway, Jungle Fury was pretty solid. Operation Overdrive was mostly bad, but had its moments.

But RPM...we're only 4 episodes in so far, so who knows, but it's a new executive producer, and so far it's easily the strongest season out of the 17 or 18. Now the EP was fired part way through for whatever stupid reason, but the guy they got to replace him was the EP for Space (among some of the other good seasons)...so that's still pretty promising.

I think some of you guys are over-inflating how good the pre-Disney stuff was, and over-bashing the Disney stuff. It's not really THAT different, and some of the disney seasons have definitely been better than some of the Saban seasons.

Since this is unfortunately the last one, I'd try to catch up on the first four episodes and just enjoy it. At least through the first 4 it's quite awesome. And yes, the mechs look dorky this season, but that's Super Sentai's fault, not the people doing RPM. (And seriously, you've got to have a high tolerance for iffy special effects to have enjoyed it from the beginning anyway.)

And to the person comparing this to Zeo-sure...I mean how many different ideas for big bads are there? But this is far, FAR less cheesy and better written than Zeo so far. Like this feels like they're trying to go for as close to a Terminator type feel as they can (given the target audience and Super Senti footage they're having to pull from). At least so far there's no question the people involved care about what they're doing and are trying.
