Engine Sentai Go-onger

Let me start off by saying that I love Sentai, and when it comes to interpretation power rangers is hit or miss.

Let me also say that I DESPISE engine sentai go-onger.

I was just wondering, is this the first power rangers series to have used the actual props from its sentai counterpart for use in filming their own scenes, aside from borrowing spliced footage? I'm currently watching Gekiranger and will soon download the premiere of Jungle Fury so I can compare, but can anyone give me some information regarding these trends?

A lot of sentai purists would hate me for saying this, but RPM wins over Go-onger, hands down. I've only seen the first episodes of either series, and RPM's premiere blew Go-onger's out of the water.

And as for the people clamoring for one more Power Rangers series, I hope you reconsider. Samurai Sentai Shinkenger is by definition something that really can't be westernized. You can make cases for Hurricanger and Kakuranger, but the Shinkengers have KANJI on their helmets. That just WILL NOT WORK for Power Rangers and I honestly dread the day I see "Power Rangers Samurai Strike" or whatever they decide to call it shows.

Come to think of it, I feel bad for RPM that they didn't have a better sentai season to work with... I mean RPM is awesome for doing such a good job with what it has, but if you look at the whole Corinth thing juxtaposed with the ridiculous Go-onger mechas, it's just plain silly.

And THANK YOU for agreeing with me on Shinkenger. I've seriously fallen in love with that series and to see it in any different form would be too strange (Whoever is thinking about going down the "Then just don't watch it, jeez.." road, kindly keep it to yourself, thanks)

I already watched the first ep. of Jungle Fury and noticed that Disney had the costumes and props at their disposal too. Would you happen to know at which series Power Rangers started actually getting props and filming their own Ranger scenes instead of simply splicing footage?

Disney can do RPM season 2 and they can go up against the Shinkenger's villians.
That sounds cool right!

The Disney series have largely used Sentai props for the series, and for the morphers they've used the Japanese toys (With the obvious exception of the Solar Morpher for Jungle Fury = That's a BoA original). And personally, I loved Engine Sentai Go-Onger because unlike some other Sentai series, it wasn't afraid to have fun and have playful digs at itself. It's what I kinda like about RPM, sure, it has a far more serious story then Go-Onger, but it still gets what it is and rides with the joke.

I think Shinkenger could be adapted without that much of a hassle. They could have the Red Ranger come from Japan, and his 'retainers' (or whatever the PR version would call them) come from America to keep the viewer identification. The West has had interest grow in Japanese culture, what with anime and manga (Yes, this includes kids watching Naruto), so why would it need to be Westernized completely? Sure, the setting would be changed so audiences would relate more to the location, but in terms of themes, I really don't understand what needs changing.

Heck, if Disney allowed a budget for it, the Red Ranger could give lessons at the end of every episode on Japanese culture to try and educate the kids on the culture so they'd understand it.

As for the Kanji on the helmets and the drawing on the morphers, it could just be handwaved as a conversation.

[Blue Ranger] What's Kanji?

[Red Ranger] It's a style of handwriting used in Japan. My clan believed that (insert whatever the Shinkenger PR equivalent would be called here) Power Rangers should embody the spirit of Japan and therefore we tried to incorporate that in our powers.

And really, just because of the popularity of anime and manga, I don't really see why the PR version would need to be changed much.
