My Reason for PH's Appearance

I've noticed that there's alot of debate over WHY Pyramid Head was in this game. It seems most people think that he either shouldn't have been or that he's there for the purpose of punishing Alex for his brother's death. Some people say that he is ONLY supposed to be in Silent Hill 2. My reason, although a bit more simple, seems to fit in with this particular Silent Hill game.

People say that he is strictly James's monster because he is what James conjured up to punish himself for Mary's murder. They will also say that Alex should not see him for this reason. I disagree.

My reason has more to do with the children than guilt. Yes, I feel Pyramid Head is there because Alex feels guilty and feels the need to be punished, but even moreso, I feel he is there because of Alex and Josh's childhood.

During the game, you find Children's Drawings, each one with a small couplet about "The Bogeyman". When you put them together, they create a long poem:

"Where is Steven, mommy? He can't play and I'm sad.
You mustn't ask, my darling--Steven has been bad.
Billy too, and Sally? Did they do something wrong?
I'm afraid it's true, child--all your friends are gone.
Beware of he who took them--he goes by many names.
The Bogeyman, the Shadowed One, but all are he, the same.
For every sin a child has, must be a punishment to bear.
Your friends are now beyond our reach; trapped deep within his lair
And if they take what is not theirs, there can be no doubt.
He'll stretch their skin until it snaps, and all the blood drains out.
Remember to always behave, for sins he won't abide.
He wields a rusty, jagged blade, to cut out your insides.
The lying little children, with souls selfish and small.
Will find their wriggling tongues cut out, and nailed to his wall.
The bullies and their spiteful wrath will find torment as well.
Soon he will strike them where they stand and drag them into hell.
Child, you must obey your parents; do everything they say.
Little ones who do otherwise, he tortures in the flames.
Beatings cleanse the soul, they say, and that is what he'll do.
If you don't control your anger then you'll feel his anger too.
You are your brother's keeper, remember it always.
Or else, the Bogeyman will chain you underneath the waves.
And while the good children live, the bad ones cannot escape their fate.
For once you hear his screeching wail, it's already too late.
So do not cry aloud at night, stay hidden in your bed...
Or the Bogeyman from Silent Hill will come chop off your head."

From this poem is where Alex's image of Pyramid Head comes. This poem, along with Pyramid Head's image, has probably been around for ages in Shepard's Glen so parents could scare their children into behaving, thus I'm sure Alex and Josh have heard it before.

"For every sin a (child) has, must be a punishment to bear."
I think the reason why PH kills Alex's father, Adam, was that Adam "sinned" by not sacrificing one of his sons. He also "sinned" in Alex's eyes, because he was a bad father to Alex.

"You are your brother's keeper, remember it always
Or else, the Bogeyman will chain you underneath the waves."

By not being a good keeper, Alex feels the "Bogeyman" ought to punish him. He feels the "Bogeyman" should be there to "chain him underneath the waves".

Anyways.... That's my opinion

wow I really like theory. i think that Pyramid Head is influenced by the person who sees him, not just a sole creation of James. when James saw him, he was raping creatures because of James sexual frustration, so by the way of SH, Pyramid Head found a way to show it and utilized it in effectin James through fear by his actions. The PH rapes were done to show James all his emotions in one action. Sexual frustration, anger, an urge to end something. Pyramid Head showed all these things in a violent way. James' purpose influenced Pyramid Heads' action

in Origins, Pyramid Head took a different approach as he became the Butcher. i do believe they are one in the same because the influence comes into play. this time the protagonist showed split personality, and that showed in the helmet change.

in Silent Hill 3, Vialet was Pyramid Head, but his purpose not to punish, but to protect/resurrect. which shows he is just a slave or hitman of sorts to Silent Hill

now in Homecoming, in a strange way, I think it shows that Alex from the beginning he was chosen out of the sacrifices to become the next Bogeyman. in this one, Pyramid Head only showed himself in the Hotel. that brief moment with the bugs goes back to how we saw many bugs in the game followin Alex, or leadin him somewhere. with Pyramid it was just a bigger amount. then later he kills Alex's father.

This i found odd. but if you watched the other sacrifices, they killed their parents in the mutated form. Alex was supposed to be the sacrifice, and the manifestation was made, he only appeared when Alex was around, or he would of left traces, which he didnt do. then surprisingly, i believe if you dnt forgive your parents, you become a Pyramid Head, thus completin the cycle that had been set. none of them forgave their parents becomin mutated, so then did Alex.

if ya read all that thanks

I did lol Thanks ^^
Anyway, I agree.
Also, another reason why James saw that particular form of Pyramid head was because of the painting in the historical society building.
He'd been so Silent Hill before, so he could have created Pyramid head off of that picture.

Damn good theory mate, BTW what did you think of one of Homecoming's endings where Alex is surrounded by the three Pyramid Heads and then is converted into one by them putting a giant pyramid on his head lol?
