GOD BLESS....CANADA? NICE FILM

Just caught the start of this on tv.
I know the story of course but it is nice to see it played out on the screen.

I am British and remember stopping at GANDER in the early 1970s when some planes had to refuel there.
More modern planes meant that GANDER's economy built around the airport must have been much reduced by the time 9/11 happened.

Anyway this is a nice little film about the way a small community worked together to help all the people stranded in GANDER due to US airspace being closed after 9/11.

Is it unfair for me to say that Canada has a poor image in America? checked shirts, mounties, french speakers, lakes?

I got the impression from American passengers interviewed on tv at the time that they were very grateful for the hospitality but at first thought they had landed in the Third World?

The sad events of 9/11 perhaps reminded the Americans who their friends are,Canada,Britain and most of Europe, not the Pacific Rim countries despite the trendy opinions.

I understand that some of the passengers set up a foundation for the people of GANDER after the events seen in the film.
