Why is this movie so underrated?

because Kick ass was adviertised better, alot of the brain-dead audiences just thought to watch that and pre-program their minds to like and enjoy that movie more than it actually can be enjoyed so they never looked for titles like defendor.

Defendor will probably end up making a lot more due to word of mouth. I never even heard of the movie until a friend of mine told me to check it out. Glad I did.

I just saw the movie and I loved it. Most movies make a good bit of their money through the rental business and media sales (i.e. DVD, Blu-Ray, etc.) I'll do my part to spread the popularity of this movie through word of mouth! :)

There are no problems that cannot be solved with a can of brake clean and a lighter

I barely even heard about defendor, but kick-ass was EVERYWHERE!!!!

This is just one of those underestimated, underadvertised titles. Give it time. Eventually people will catch on and dvd sales will even things out. That's the great thing about the internet and IMDb in particular, is that it gives you a chance to find these movies down the road.

Im a big fan of superheromovies and lately there been many good ones. Defendor was definately not the good ones for me and I have to say Kick-ass was ten times better.

For me the rating of 7/10 is overrated, I'd give defendor 5/10.

Woody and Kat were good but their lines were not that good and the whole rest of the cast sucked.. oops, I mean BLOWED big time.

I'd like to read the original script because people are shouting out its a great one. All I saw on the screen was some dull dialog and boring characters that are impossible to relate. This movie is supposed to be fantasy - so why is it so boring? And for the drama theres not much in it either. I think the whole thing just lacked imagination.

If this was shot on 20 days no wonder it looks this bad... Nice images but no action nor interesting drama in there.

So why did this movie performe so poorly? I think it was really nothing interesting in the first place.. I gave it a real change and paid to see it with no expectations, but as soon as it started with Woody being idiot speaking some uninteresting bs with a shrink and then delivering some lame-ass oneliner.. A retarded superhero? I wonder why didn't anyone else come up with an unique idea like this.. : P - So I think the movie did bad because it sucks.. I mean blows.

I got about half an hour into the movie and turned it off.

Looking at the dvd case in the vid store I took it to be some kind of comedy.
I saw Woody Harrelson on the cover in a makeshift superhero costume with a "D" DUCT TAPED to his shirt.
So I think: hmmm, some kind of superhero spoof?

Flipping the case over I see "Defendor" brandishing a slingshot and read that this guy has no superpowers and fights crime "...armed only with a childlike sense of wonder and his quirky arsenal of cheap homemade gadgets."
This seemed to confirm my initial assumption that this was a comedy and nothing else.

Instead the movie leans more towards Forrest Gump/Rainman style drama.
Don't get me wrong, this is NOT a bad thing and I am not going to bash this movie or form any opinion until I watch it in its entirety.
I was just led to believe that this was an out and out comedy and got something else instead.

So in answer to the original post:
If a lot of people watched this film expecting one thing and instead got something else then maybe that's why it was not highly rated. Though it seems to be doing well now and I will give it another chance when I am in the mood for this type of flick.

It didn't get much of a release though,did it?Cinemas have been swamped with superhero movies over the last few years,a low budget entry that didn't get much advertising behind it hardly stood a chance.I only managed to see it because I found a copy in my local art house video store,the mainstream places didn't have it(and I had been keeping my eye out for it,people unaware of it would probably ignore it if they found it on the shelves.Hopefully more people get to see it, I really enjoyed it and think it deserves a bigger audience.
