It's really NOT that bad guys

Trust me, I'm a movie hater. Haha I hate everything. I went into this movie knowing I wasn't really going to like it.

Did I love the movie? No. But I think KIDS love this movie and that's what it's meant for. All of us here are adults so of course we hate it. It's mean for kids 13 and under to enjoy and when I watched it from that perspective I think it's perfect for what it's made for.

Of course it didn't hit the money marker the first weekend. This is a word of mouth movie more then a billion dollar ad campaign. I bet next week it will have better numbers then this week once the kids tell their friends about it.

People hoard their kids to the theaters to see garbage like Alvin and the chipmunks and Garfield 2, so I don't see why this movie isnsuch a problem. At least it's sending kids a cute message. And personally I think it's nice and refreshing to see some normal kids in a movie for a change.

Every movie is definitely made for money but I really think this movie was more about giving kids a shot and putting some new talent out there. I was surprised when it got picked up for nation wide release, I've been following this films progress for a while now. I think that was really the victory here.

Also theaters don't really make much money off direct ticket sales so I don't think it's too much of a problem.

Congratulations, Melanie...you "get it" and got directly to the heart of the film. The film was made with a very small budget, and the kids were hand-picked to give them a shot, and it has done that. You have probably noticed that some on this board seem to have an obsession with seeing this film fail, spending their time researching stats to make "Standing Ovation" look bad, and posting on an almost hourly basis. Some of these people have undeclared agendas for which they are being well compensated. I am sorry to be somewhat crude, but they are called "paid prostitutes" in the industry. Not a very noble profession, but I guess everyone has to make a living.

"Standing Ovation" will make a profit in the end, and will be a springboard for some of the featured performers. The dancing and music is spectacular, and I wouldn't be surprised if something more comes of the music. BTW, in the movie business, the "prostitutes" do get paid regardless, because they have made an effort to trash the film.

Don't be surprised if there is a Standing Ovation 2 coming your way within the next few years lol. Yeah, I'm a sequel hater but hey the more music the more fun right? Lol. And we all know that HSM 2 and 3 sure made more than the first.

Also, Standing Ovation must be doing something right since I've had "Blush" stuck in my head all day. I've been running around singing it, and if I'm 17 and doing that I can only imagine how much the kids are lol.

I doubt there will ever be a sequel. I did some research, and it turns out that the studio that distributed the film, Kenilworth Films, was looking for Standing Ovation to be their springboard into the business of making family-friendly comedies. It was the first film they had distributed. Since it failed so badly, the studio is unlikely to make that gamble a second time, and neither is any other studio.

I didn't think the acting was that bad. I mean, the story was a little cliche, and some of the acting was a LITTLE over the top, but the guy who played Mark was actually really good!

"The dancing and music is spectacular"

You were all making sense until who ever said that said it...were all of you in the movie or something?

No, I'm not in this movie.

And I really think IMDB should have some kind of system set up where you can only rate a movie if you prove you saw it by answering questions or something. Obviously no more then 3 people on these boards seem to have seen the movie, especially with the above comment about an audience member who was of course a main character....

Does it matter if the song is super new? Not really as long as it's catchy enough to be in people's heads (kinda wish I could get it out of mine! lol).

Oh I just misread and saw that someone posted about another review I thought they were asking if I was in it lol.

Folks:

This will be that rare film where opening week is closing week. Only the exhibitors who have fallen on hard times (in terms of booking) will keep it.

Perhaps the second run theatres will pick it up.

No it is THAT bad and much much worse...I'm sorry but anyone who was able to finish this movie and has even one positive thing to say about it does not have a clue as to what makes a good movie...and you may not even have a clue as to what constitutes good taste period. Everything that could be bad about this film is bad (actually it is worse than bad). Disney Channel movies are Oscar worthy pictures when compared to this trash. I told a friend that if anyone ever wanted to make an excellent movie all they would have to do was watch this first and then do the opposite of everything in it. Oh the fact that people defend this movie makes me realize why Hollywood is okay with making crappy movies nowadays.

reply

I may think the movie is awful, but I also think it's entertaining. The flaws in the movie help make it entertaining. It's definitely not unwatchable by any means. And I think most Hollywood movies are crap.

Uhhh...ezfinders....why do you have the need to "prove" your prediction about the the "Standing Ovation" box office? Again, you're a "prostitute", paid to pretend on different sites that you're "Joe Average" movie patron and write negative reviews. I had some research done on you. This week it's 'Standing Ovation", next week it will be whatever film they tell you to attack. On a industry-related site like IMDB you talk money and numbers, on a child-related site (under a different alias) you pretend to be a kid who doesn't like the film, and on Yahoo Movies you're a mother (again, under a different alias) who took her children to see the movie and (yup, you guessed it, folks) her children hated the movie. You've been exposed, my friend. Give up your act...you're not even that good at it if I was able to uncover you in less than two hours with the help of some insiders. Go crawl back under your rock until you decide to make an honest living.
