Can the film surpass its $80 million dollar budget?

I was just wondering if the film has a chance at surpassing its $80 million dollar production budget considering the fact that the film has made $66 million so far and it seems to be picking up.

We don't even have the foreign numbers yet, and with 66 already in domestic BO I'd say yes.

When this thing made 18 mil it's first weekend, I thought this thing would drop off quick making somewhere in the 30s, but it's actually held on really well.

Don't forget, while the budget was $80M, the producers got %15 of that back in cash, for filming in New Zealand...$12M... so they need to hit $68M to break even. Done.

It hasn't even been released overseas yet, so I would say mission accomplished. Nice safe kids movie to turn a profit over the holidays.

Does the $80m also include advertising and promotion? From what I understand ticket sales need to be twice what the budget is for a film to break even.

Ohhh, it's all so complicated, with the flowers, and the romance, and the lies upon lies.

The Theatres keep their cut. Still, at 80 Mil they just need 160 mil to break even, and are likly to rach somewhere in that neighbourhood, or perhaps 200 mil, bytthe time this thing leaves Theatres.

I would take the 80 Million figure with a grain of salt, as it is only an estimate. Studios generally keep their numbers under wraps. Even if that figure of $80M is correct, then the studio would get %15 back from the New Zealand Government as a rebate.... so the studio spent $68M..IF the 80M figure is accurate.

Film making is a business, so there is some very creative/clever accounting going on behind the scenes...
To say the film must make $160M to break even is a bit of a stretch.

The cut the cinemas get is actually very very little. The cinemas make their money on the concession stand, not on the box office takings.

Finally, Yogi Bear will do exceptionally well on DVD/Blu Ray, adding to the profit.

Actually an exaggeration or outright lie might be a better way to describe the budget of this film. No way did it cost 80 million. No A list actors, minimal locations, average CGI work, and green screen work that looks like it could have been done in someones garage.

Hollywood often just makes up big budget numbers so the public feels like it's getting it's money's worth with high ticket prices.

The foreign box office made 100million. The domestic made 100million. They made in all, from the movie only, 200million. Yes, they surpassed the budget.
