Did anybody notice there were maybe zero black extras?

This film had a great many crowd scenes. Insofar as I live in an urban area in the United States, it is highly noticeable to me if a significantly large group of people supposedly picked at random includes no black people (I use the term "black" to include African, African-American, Afro-Caribbean, Haitian, and other groups who share an African heritage). Maybe one or two possibly Indian or East Asian people.

How this could have come about without intentional discrimination is beyond me, plus I can't see how the producers could stand to benefit from such a "casting policy".

This might make some sense if the action in the film were supposed to take place in Finland or if the setting were meant to be ambiguous in this regard, but in fact there were American flags all over the place.

Oh yes toward the end there was the one black security dude.

Aha - If you watch the crowd of extras arriving at the park you will see one young man who is possibly part-maori. a darker skin (possibly a nice tan) and black kinda/sorta curly-ish hair.
They have him walk past the scene maybe 5 times. At a casual glance you may suppose he was black?

Also, I think I saw one Asian woman. Possibly Indonesian (or ancestry)?

It was filmed in New Zealand. I am sure they would be African-NEw Zeland. Just like Australia has blacks as well.

Reminds me of Magma having one black dude.

Africa-New Zealand??? You know NZ never had African slaves right?

reply

And what? the only way a person who was born in Africa to leave his/her continent is becoming a slave???? Gee, you're stupid.

No, some went to slavery on their own.

Do you know any country with a high percentage of black people that did not have slaves or they are not native to the area?

Also Jellystone is based on Yellowstone, located in Wyoming. Wyoming is 96% white, 3% American Indian and 1% african american

i once drove by a black neighborhood and everyone i saw was black. How this could have come about without intentional discrimination is beyond me

LOST SPOILERS , IN THE ENDINGit was about the characters and purgatory

From what I have seen, New Zealand has very few 'African Americans' let alone African American actors. It does have a large number of Polynesians/Moaris & Asians

Out of interest, I am fairly sure the black security guard was the guy from one of the Jack Links 'Messin with Sasquatch' commercials, also shot in New Zealand.

Maybe they just have one black actor to go around?

Does it really matter?

Couldnt agree more

reply

why does it matter? Seems to me that some people are just LOOKING for a reason to call "RACISM!!" Most modern educated people aren't racist. Could it be that no people with darker skin showed up on the day they were casting for extras?

im sorry but your raciest suggesting that there "must" be black's in a movie. re Why are you singling out "blacks" if you are not a raciest?

reply

Playing the race card with a damn Yogi Bear movie?! Seriously, get a life.

The movie was set in Jellystone Park, a name that takes off of Yellowstone. Yellowstone is located primarily in Wyoming, a state which boasts a black population of 1.15% according to the 2005 census as cited on Wikipedia.

Honest to god, so freaking what!?!?!?!?! Sometimes I think Race Baiters are as bad as Racists.

Now if the crowd was dressed in White sheets or marching with Confederate or Nazi flags then I would agree with you, but you simply sound like you're trying to make a case of racism where none exists.

And this movie by the way was AWFUL.
