Very true. Michael was kind of in the same situation at the end of Part II as well although I’m not sure how regretful he was by that point, he certainly was alone. It seems Pacino and De Niro kind of traded places in the Irishman from what they were in Godfather Part II

I guess The Irishman also felt like Jimmy was a bit like Fredo, a brother that he had to kill, and would regret for the rest of his life.
