I'm sorry I just didn't buy Pacino as Hoffa

I felt like I was watching Al Pacino playing a character.

He looks nothing like Hoffa, really didn't carry his mannerism, didn't sound like him.

I keep reading that Pacino killed it.
I didn't see it.

I think because he didn't look the part nor even try to replicate the voice of Hoffa in any meaningful way, instead he just sounded like Pacino trying to sound like a gangster... Which is very funny since Hoffa's voice was very plain and he was much less animated than Pacino portrayed him. Given you can find lots of old footage of Hoffa you would have thought that Pacino could have at least listened to him enough to understand how he sounded.

Thank You. I'm not hating on Pacino as other posters may write. I enjoy him as an actor and not just Scarface and the Godfather movies. I think that is the real issue, as you wrote is the fact that we have actual audio and visual footage of Hoffa. I found Hoffa to be spry and young. All I saw in how Pacino portrayed him was as and old week man.

reply

agree.

Pacino is great, but he just doesn't fit this character.

It was bizarre.

Hoffa was AMISH and Pacino was clearly and Italian guy acting like and Italian guy. I was mindblown when he said to the Italian guy "you people" and started insulting Italians. I had to look Hoffa up on wiki to see what his ethnicity was.

I agree
The 70s were Pacinos prime

I think Al Pacino was great and he looked great in this movie. And of course you can't but help think that you're looking at a Pacino performance when you see him in the movie. He is no different than Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson or many other famous actors who we pay to see basically play themselves on the screen.

Not every actor can be a chameleon like Gary Oldman.

reply

Me either.

I agree, I don't think he did a bad job or anything but it felt like Al Pacino doing a parody of his older roles. I would have bought De Niro playing Hoffa more than Pacino.
