Why would Sheeran have murdered Hoffa?

There seems to be no real reason that Sheeren would have been involved, or involved himself in, Hoffa's murder. Clearly they were friendly and Sheeren had benefited hugely from knowing and being with Hoffa.

Now, the Mafia could have threatened to kill him if he did not go the killing. But then why would he not have told his whole story? Maybe his Mafia buddies told him if he talked they would kill him or all the members of his family.

Or, maybe Sheeren was lying and pretending to be friends with Hoffa during all this time?

If there is no truth to this movie, what is the point? If it does not have anything new or useful to say? It's as useless as the JFK movie by Oliver Stone.

I think your comparison to Oliver Stone's JFK is perfect. I've done a lot of research about the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa and almost certainly Frank Sheeran didn't kill him. Just like JFK the storyline is intriguing but it just doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Thankfully, both are great movies but maybe not as great as the based on true story Goodfellas.

You are right. Sheeran was a prolific liar.

If Russell said to kill Hoffa, then Frank has no choice. Hoffa killed himself basically, after several warnings from the bosses.

This is correct. According to this movie, Hoffa had been warned enough times as politely as possible. Hoffa acts unrealistically like an idiot and keeps playing with fire until he gets burned.

I think it would have been smarter to leave Sheeran out of the execution though.
