I only saw the trailer, but Brian Dennehy looked simply awful

I admit I only saw the trailer for this movie, but Brian Dennehy - at least what little was shown of him in the trailer - looked positively awful! I always remember him as being a vibrant, gutsy sort of guy, full of gusto and zeal for living. But he looked so horrible in the trailer scenes that I don't think I could bear to watch this movie.

He doesn't look that bad. The first shot he was in he looked bad. He IS in his 70's.

What we have here is failure to communicate!

Well, he is getting older so I am sure he moves a little slower, and he has lost a lot of weight from his previous days so that makes him LOOK gaunt and haggard in a lot of his movies now. Some people, after losing a lot of weight, tend to actually look unhealthy even though their weight loss has been better in the long run for their health. Fat tends to smooth out wrinkles and give your face a completely different look.

I think the roles he has had in later years also have something to do with his looking sickly or unhealthy. I have only seen him in a couple of roles in the past five years and he was playing a sick, elderly, dying person in both roles. I haven't seen any of his other work during this time period so I don't know if it is just the roles he has been playing and they make him look worse than he really is or if he really is in poor health and it is showing through on camera.

Anyone seen any of his other works in the last five years to say he looks different than in this role?

What you don't realize is he's supposed to look like poop. He's an old man who has been bitter about life for a long, long time. So bitter that his daughter gave up on having a relationship with him 30 years ago.

His character is also supposed to be in very poor health.

So don't judge Dennehy's health by how he looks in this movie. He's playing a character.

You used his name in the topic header, so, close enough.

What an interesting cast, several people who I like, and this got captured by the DVR because Eddie Izard was involved.

I can't stomach the pathetic Brian deheny, and won't watch anything he is in.
