The big mistake they made with this movie

It was like they tried to do 2 movies in 1, which is a big no-no.
I wondered if this movie was focused more on the father-in-law, or the turmoil of the husband and his conflict with staying faithful.
They should have put all the emphasis on one of these ideas. At least then the movie would have felt more complete.

Bless Liev for the effort he put into the role. It was nice seeing a big bad-ass playing a humble, polite ordinary guy with the vulnerability a lot of guys have (even if they try to hide it). Although I did find him a little less than believable at times.

Carla Gugino was fantastic as the femme fatale. Reminded me of a couple of individuals I knew. Problem of course is that she has about 10 minutes screen time.

It's ironic that this film had a lot of focus on professional screenwriting, because the writers of this movie all deserved a slap for thinking this movie was marketable.

no mistakes, so I rated it 10.
1. the story is real, people do face these situations and deal with them.
2. the characters are real and I can easily identify them
3. the acting is superb, from all the cast, from a 10 year-old, to the 70+ Dennehy, the minor characters too.
4. there are several really good scenes. ie, when Ned explains his cut eye!!
5. there are many quotable and memorable lines of dialogue... "Thank god for morphine" is one.

So, what's your rating?

...it's a whole lot harder to shine.... than undermine.

Says it's a dramatic comedy. There was my first mistake. That was a terrible movie, so depressing
