As a hardcore LotR book fan, I loved it

I love the official movies. I do. But for all their glamour and shinyness, they sometimes lacked the heart that the books had. I mean there WERE great "emotional" moments, such as the part where Sam helps Frodo up the mountain. But a lot of the heart and poetry of the story kind of got lost in all the special effects, unecessary alterations and add-on ideas. When they completely swept over the story of Eowyn and Faramir, only to replace it with an obsessive and inaccurate retelling of Aragorn/Eowyn/Arwen I was disheartened. I have a strong attachment to the depth and scope and beauty of the orginal novel and I am one of those geeks that doesn't care if the books are slow, and they all sound "gay" and use words like "Alas." I ADORE that sort of thing. I get extremely, deeply attached to it. I have memorized entire poems from the book because I am weird like that. Therefore, I adore these fan made films. They were made by people who I can only guess are somewhat as nerdy as me and decided to dwell more on storytelling and character interaction than special effects or other fancy stuff. It may lack shinyness, but has a lot of heart and made me feel attached to Tolkien's world in a way I haven't since reading Return of the King. So, if you would rather watch LotR than read it, I'd say you may or may not like this film. But if you are hardcore geeky, or simply love a romantic, touching film, you probably will. :)

Me, too.

My parents were hardcore geeks, and I learned the history of Middle-earth before I learned the history of "this" world. Born of Hope left a warm glow inside as it made pictures of my imagination regarding Aragorn's fore-story. I cannot praise those involved in the making of this film highly enough. They are true artists in every sense of the word!
Only one thing makes me sad - that Kate Madison, who certainly deserves it, will not be playing Tauriel in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hobbit: There and Back Again. If anyone could own that part, it is most assuredly she!
