About some of the characters from the first movie

I am assuming that Bovver and some of the other GSE members were put in a different prison? (they are not mentioned in the movie).
As for Tommy Hatcher, he received a life sentence for first-degree murder?
(it's not specified in the film).

To be honest, I was slighly taken aback when it came to this film, as it was too violent for my taste (and most of the characters were not that sympathetic). Also, it didn't really feel like a sequel.
