Billy Connolly and Peter Fonda save this movie

Everything related to the twins, Romeo, Eunice Bloom, and the three detectives all feels way too comedy-focused. And it wouldn't have been so bad if the comedy was actually funny, but all too often it goes for easy jokes that just don't work, with a couple exceptions. But these exceptions are more often than not due to the actors' charisma instead of genuinely funny writing.

But Billy Connolly? Holy crap, his story, past and present, is hands down the best part of the film. The drama, the scope, the emotion, and then the addition of Peter Fonda to his storyline... all of it works so well.

The quiet showdown between Fonda and Connolly is easily the best part of the film. It's well written, well shot, well acted, and it reminds me why Troy Duffy is able to win people to his cause despite all his shortcomings.
