Krod Mandoon was filmed in Hungary using some of the same facilities and crew as Robin Hood, incidentally.
6 or 8 episodes is traditional for a new 30 minute comedy vehicle in the UK, though it debuted here with episodes 1 & 2 edited together as a 60 minute special.
For reference, excluding soaps and ongoing dramas such as The Bill and Casualty (which are really just police and hospital procedurals as soap anyway) virtually all British dramas and comedies are written as short series (seasons) of no more than 13 episodes.
In particular with sitcoms, but also with dramas, the writing team is often limited to perhaps 2 or 3 individuals, though quite frequently a show will be the product of a single writer, unlike the US system where several main writers are supported by by story editors and, in the case of some sitcoms, a whole writers room pitching individual gags into the mix, all overseen by a central show runner.
Even where the 'show runner' format is operated in British TV (e.g. Dr Who), series (seasons) tend to be no more than 13 episodes a year though since traditionally a full series (season)is broadcast on consecutive weeks and not spread across ratings 'sweeps' periods (we have no such thing here) or subject to other pre-emptions. Consequently many of our shows have tighter story arcs and less 'filler'.
