Demographics - Like/Dislike

It seems that this new pilolt is drawing quite polarised reactions. I for one quite liked it, but would like to know what everyone else thought and where (country) they live.

I'm from the U.S. Maybe it plays better w/Brits. In terms of age and gender, I'm guessing that its popularity peaks w/14-yr-old boys and falls off pretty quickly beyond that age group. There are a few funny lines, but most of it is pretty broad humor, some slapstick. After the first few minutes it becomes sort of predictable.

But the writers do have some genuinely funny lines in there, and the actors are putting a lot of energy into their performances. It may find a niche audience that will keep it going for at least one season. I doubt it will last long enough to be put into syndication. (And it just doesn't feel like something that would be popular in syndication.) But I've been wrong before.

Like it, will watch for a while, they may get better as they find their way, although the show has the potential to fall apart quickly. Was not as good as I expected it to be; as with many movies much of the best material was in the trailers.

This show reminds me of Brisco County Jr. moved to a medieval setting; Sean Maguire's character comes across like Bruce Campbell lite.

I think they will do better if they target their geek audience rather than trying to make it accessible to everybody. The funniest bits were fantasy in-jokes like the flaming sword; "I should have that looked at.", "I thought it was defective.".

For the record, my kids are well past your hypothetical demographic.

Wanted to like it, but couldn't. Just too hackneyed, tedious and heavy-handed for my tastes. I wrote Comedy Central and politely asked them to make this go away.

I'm 30-something, female, a writer (including humor) and teacher, and in the US.

reply

no reason to want it off the air just dont watch

and nobody expects 30 yr old women to watch this

reply

Funny you mentioned writing Comedy Central. For the first time ever - I wrote a station to politely tell them that they have a good thing here! =) Better than watching Survivor! (Not Survivorman, Survivor!)

Like (USA)

I liked it, but I think most are going to dislike it here. It's an utterly silly show, and that just doesn't fly in the US anymore. This would've done better in the US back in the 80's.

reply

I have six nephews between the ages of 15 and 31, and the ones that saw it thought it was boring.

reply

Oh man this woulda been a classic in the 80s! I agree with you completely this kind of show just isnt what most ppl wanna see anymore. I pretty much loved it. It wasnt fantastic but it was good.

I also dont think it was specifically tryin to spoof DND or fantasy movies in general. I think its just spose to be a goofy comedy about an unlikely hero that happens to be set in a fantasy world.

It makes me think of Middleman with the quirky kinda off the wallness. Sadly itll prolly follow Middleman and barely make it 1 season if that.

Aside from the fact Benny Hill was both entertaining and funny, while Krod was neither, I totally agree. Then again I watched that when I was, like, 12 or something.

Another poster hit Krod's problem squarely in the jaw, this would have been great about 20 years ago. Not sure that the innuendo and bathroom humour work with tween audiences in the age of the Internet. Still the series could have potential. Depends on where it goes.

Not so sure about that. My generation (I'm 20), and when I was younger too, LOVE Kevin Smith movies which practically define innuendo and bathroom humor. Though it may be true that the show's a little past it's time, I still dig it :)

It is not what I expected, and not every line/joke hits it's mark, but there are some genuine gems in there.

Pretty decent overall considering it's a fantasy comedy on basic cable.
