Cancelled
it's gone..along with Bored to Death and Hung

Finally. I wasn't expecting to come back the show was terrible. Hung as well. Bored To Death was good but it couldn't be easy retaining Zack and Dawson, they've both moved on to bigger things.
shareNo surprise this show sucked.
shareAgreed. I watched a few episodes and had no clue what the show was about, just random hipster crap with Luiz Guzman's story line tacked on. The fact that they canned this and picked up "Enlightened" is a sign that HBO may be getting back on the right track with their 'Original Programming'.
shareI'm so sad that 'How to make it in America' is cancelled! If you have twitter express your feelings about the cancellation and tweet #cantstopthehustle to @ologize

How to Make It in America will go down in history as the show that introduced the world to Lake Bell's boobies.
share*beep*, what the *beep* are you thinking HBO, this show probably cost nothing to make. I mean 8 half hour episodes? Cancel the ugly populist Game of Thrones and make originals!! HTMIIA actually was pretty good.
shareyeah, "cancel game of thrones and renew How to Make it in America?"
I'm sure HBO is really desperate for awesome advice like that... I bet they're kicking themselves for not listening to your brilliant suggestion 5 years ago. I've read some silly things on the internet, but this might win.
This makes me sad. Luis Guzmán is a great character actor and he was brilliant on this show.

We should get a Luis Guzman show. HTMIIA was just attempt to get the Entourage fans to stay on something but the show never picked up or show full promise. I think they were gun shy on a lot of issues. Like if Luis Guzman's character was really a thug have him shoot Kid Cudi right in the face.
I think it all came down to the main characters likability, he always had that constipated look on his face and was unenthusiastic about almost everything. The imagine I have on my head of him is him saying meh. At least Entourage had a big cast that got into zany adventures.
This was supposed to be a feel good kind of comedic show but it was so stuck up and just didn't make any sense at times. Rachael at Biscuit? What was that? nothing came of it, except her downward spiral into soup and Schvitzing.
it saddens me they cancelled this show. along with 2 Broke Girls on CBS with Kat Dennings (ironically another new show about broke young people trying to make it in NYC) this was the only show on TV i was liking since 24 got cancelled. it was very much like a New York 'Entourage' but that show had things going for it this one didnt:
1) a much bigger budget. the cast travelled to many locations outside of LA, while this cast stayed pretty much in the same spots, Manhattan and Brooklyn (and maybe a few other boroughs of NY)
2) more celebrity cameos every week
3) the infectious charisma and sarcastic biting humor of Ari Gold's character played excellently by Jeremy Piven. this show had no one with that energy or presence.
4) unoriginal cast. i liked all the characters, except Cam who wasnt that interesting to me, but you gotta admit they kinda copied the Entourage formula. Ben was essentially E (Kevin Connolly), the level headed one. Kappo was essentially Drama (Kevin Dillon), the wannabe. Kid Cudi was my favorite character though. He impressed me as an actor (even though i am NOT a fan of his music at all).
I understand the point of the show. Showing the humble beginnings and the random unplanned connections you can make that can create your path to success. the problem here was we are watching people on the rise while on Entourage we had characters who had already made it. Vince was already a rich and famous actor so we had the mansions, the girls, the parties, the movie locations, the big director and actor and celebrity cameos, fancy restaurants, etc. that lifestyle is much more 'cinematic' to watch versus here where we have a bunch of broke hipsters living in Brooklyn taking the subway to run down looking apartments trying to convince people to buy their 'Crisp' t-shirts.
one thing i'll miss the most is the soundtrack. each episode always ended with a great song and this show helped me discover some of my now new favorite bands.
Can't say I didn't see it coming, but it's a shame nonetheless. I always felt the show needed to be longer than 25mins per episode, with a higher episode quota per season. Ah well.

I don't really care about Bored to Death or Hung, but damn this is a bummer. And Enlightened got picked up for a 2nd season. Yeah, good luck with that HBO. At least How to Make It ended on a high note, but, too soon HBO, too soon.
shareOne more season of this would have been really nice. It's sad to see it go. I think it really could have picked up if they gave it one more chance.
She's My Rushmore, Max. 37!
I couldn't care less about Hung, show was boring as hell. I *beep* loved Bored to Death and HTMIIA. Those two shows really spoke to me. I'm so glad they are renewing Enlightened! First season was great and the finale was awesome!
