Jamarcus should not have been an alien

I can think of only one reason for the plot twist of revealing Jamarcus as an alien; and that was for him to reveal the aliens weakness to the team. I actually figured he was the alien much earlier in the show when his buddy did not attack him in that man's backyard.

There are several reasons why they should not have done this. First and foremost it makes no sense to have one alien turn on and kill his own entire race just because he didn't like a couple of them or because he liked or pitied Earthlings so much. It also did not have to be Jamarcus coming to save the team with the information about their weak point. That could have been revealed in a variety of different ways, accidently even. Hell, the woman could have saved them. That would have cemented her role on this new "team".

Many of the scenes previous to the revelation did not make sense and were only put on for the audience. Why have Jamarcus give his dead alien comrade a BJ? Why have Jamarcus excited when that orb blew things up? Why have Jamarcus acting scared *beep* in the guy's backyard? These and many more instances of only pretending for the sake of the audience when the characters did not need to act that way.

I agree that there could have been other ways that the aliens weakness could be discovered. Kind of like in Mars Attacks! a rogue alien doesn't tell them that that old lady's music will make their heads explode. They find out by accident. Not only does Jamarcus reveal the weakness of the aliens, he also reveals to the watch squad the alien's plan to take over earth. Without that piece of information, the end of the movie couldn't happen. There are other ways this could have been discovered but it would have made the movie too long. I like the idea of Jamarcus not knowing how to disengage the device at the end of the movie. It actually explains why he is excited about the orb blowing things up. He is just a commoner. He's not a scientist. For example, I'm a commoner. I don't fire bazookas on a regular basis. Blowing some stuff up would be a crazy experience for me. For all we know, he could work some sort of alien hot dog stand which requires no intelligence or orb fire at all. He doesn't know everything like every other alien in every other alien movie. In the backyard maybe he's scared because he knows that alien and knows he's a jerk or maybe he doesn't know the alien and doesn't know how he will behave in front of humans. He could also be afraid of blowing his cover. At that point in the movie, motive for his character might be trying to make sure the watch squad isn't actually on to the aliens plan.

It would have been nice if you had a spoiler warning in your title :(

Yeah, now that I am just now watching the movie and Jamarcus has been introduced. Really appreciate the spoiler right there in your title. Sigh.

While the title of this thread was dumb, what are you doing surfing on a forum while watching a movie at the same time?

you come to Read discussions of the movie and don't think you'll find out anything about the movie.

I think there were changes in the script made quite late. Whether Jamarcus should have been an alien or not. [spoilers] He was foreshadowed as an alien almost from the beginning, e.g.the only black person in the movie. Also Billy Crudup was set up to be an alien, partly by the bad makeup and then they switched it up and then they didn't go through with it.

There's no reason why the aliens wanted to destroy Earth for no good reason.

It's just a movie. There was nothing inherently wrong by making him an alien.

Yorick, a lot of people do that. I usually scan the forums before deciding to watch something to see if I want to see it or not based on comments. A minor spoiler is no big deal, but this was a whopper as it gave away a major part of the plot. Because it's protocol to warn of a major spoiler in the forum title, I assume it's okay to read the titles.

Why on Earth did you scroll all the way down here and reply to a completely different post?

Anyway, you said that you were watching the film at the same time and now you said that you were just looking around before you saw it?

Wait a minute. It doesn't even matter. You shouldn't have been here in the first place. That's what reviews are for.

Wtf do you think the purpose of spoiler warnings on these boards is if only people who have already seen the movies look through them. Use logic its not that hard to grasp.

reply

The movie has been released though and reviews are sufficient enough to gauge interest.

There's nothing illogical about avoiding a forum after the film has been released.

It always amazes me when morons attempt to justify (easily avoidable) inconsideration.

It still works to have Jamarcus be an alien. Near the end when he was marvelling at the transmitter he said he doeesn't have a clue about how it works, just like all human's dont know what makes an iphone tick. When they found the orb, it was likely that he had no idea what it was.

He would have posed for the pictures in order to fit in and not blow his cover.

When they found the orb, Jamarcus was the one who didn't want to touch it. So he did know what it was.

Then when they made him help stick his finger in the hole, and saw it fired, he was like WOW and got excited like the rest of them.

To use the example from above, if one of us found a bazooka, like a real one, our first thought would be... no way i'm not touching that for fear that you'll do something wrong and blow yourself up. But once you pull the trigger and see a cow explode, then... WOW :) more more more

Anyone noticed when Jamarcus is finally placing his finger in the orb, when he does that there is a short moaning sound of a woman. I find that hilarious :)

is Jamarcus a real name?

What was the point of his character (or any of the others) anyway? So he likes humans so he wants to help them (just because his life centres around having his balls (that belong to the skin of a dead guy he is wearing) sucked?). What a stupid movie. That bit of the plot wasn't even the worst.

There were a few clues, that kind of give it away that I didn't notice the first time watching. Little things like when he got handed a beer... the discussion about the alien blood feeling jizz-like.
