So..

..What did everyone think? I enjoyed it, and hopefully it will stick around. I hope the CBC won't pull the plug too soon.

I'm just half way through watching it but it seems OK. Pretty well done.

Just finished watching it. Good start; better than most pilot episodes. Good snap to the script and the characters. The editing seems a bit choppy in the first half. Maybe I need a larger TV to appreciate the pacing. :) Didn't buy the bearded drug runner. Performance was lacking. Ditto the female constable. Her character needs more of an edge or better definition on some level. Maybe that's forthcoming in the series.

Still gave it an 8 though. I'm sure that it'll only get better

BTW, definite thumbs up for Sean Majumder's performance. Odd (but good) to see him in something that doesn't involve laughs.

Very patchy. Loved the St. John's locale, but the production values seemed really cheap. There is little chemistry between any of the leads, especially between Doyle father and son. The dialogue was really awkward, and the acting was pretty bad at times. Hope to more of Shaun Majumder, though.

All in all quite disappointing after the big buildup.

OK, I'll take back what I said in my previous post about the Constable Leslie Bennett character. Just finished watching the second episode and Krystin Pellerin performance puts the lie to what I said previously based on the pilot episode.

Again the script has a lot of snap to it and is thoroughly entertaining. Best waste of time on the box (and I mean that in the nicest way possible). :D

reply

OK. What I said initially? Please feel free to forget it in its entirety. Shot from the lip, I did. Just finished watching episode 3 and her character just keeps developing.

And I reiterate what I said in my previous post about the show being the best waste of time on the box.

reply

Damn, I missed the first episode. I hope I can watch it on the CBC website.

I don't watch anything on the CBC but I saw the trailer for this show and gave it a try and WOW it was excellent! I have the old PVR set for 9:00 pm EST on Wednesdays now and I'm looking froward the the season of Republic of Doyle!!

You can download it for free off iTunes!

Compared to most other shows, I think it stacks up well. Some of the acting is not that great, but the storylines have a lot of potential.

Ian Tracey. He was a cop on Divinci's Inquest

He played Jimmy Reardon. Feel free to correct me but I thought Jimmy ran the strip club (and drugs and other nefarious activities). I didn't think he was a copper.

Ian Tracey played 'Det. Mick Leary' who was partner to Donnelly Rhodes 'Det Leo Shannon'.

He played Reardon on a show called "intelligence"

Yep, pretty good show that Sweating Bullets, along with Republic of Doyle. I'm liking it so far! Got a bit of everything. BTW, did anyone else catch what Jake said to his dad when they were leaving Rob Stewart's characters house? He said something like "He sure wasn't sweating bullets." Check it online at CBC!

reply

Yeah that made me giggle. I had to explain it to my husband. I'm really liking the show it's really showing great potential.

reply

Yes, I'm really enjoying it too...the characters are really growing on me, and you just can't beat the scenery or music. They've also got the last shots down pat! Like a good book, they end each episode in such a snappy way, I HAVE to come back the next week to see how Doyle gets out of this one:)

reply

They renewed the show for a second season, but they won't premiere it until 2011!
