Canadian Netflix used to have seasons 1 and 2 (and, in fact, added season 2 episodes as they aired) but it never got season 3 and now the first two seasons seem to have been removed. Hurm.

If you are thinking of the US Netflix, my guess would be that it is too overtly un-American to be assumed to be appealing to enough people to make it financially viable. It isn't Criminal Minds or Rookie Blue.

If you are referring to the CA Netflix, it seems the show is now somewhat exclusively on iTunes. Perhaps the cash-flow was looking better with iTunes than Netflix. Pretty much every current scripted CBC shows (and many of the more recently ended popular shows too) is now on iTunes, which they weren't two years ago.

If you're in Canada you can watch any episode on CBC's website, although you have to put up with annoying commercials. Their website also offers seasons 1-3 on DVD.

I actually tweeted Allan Hawco on this very subject. And he did reply. I asked him if Republic of Doyle was on either iTunes or Netflix here in the States and he replied "No Sir- i'd like us to be but not yet."

BTW, Starting in december 2013,
Republic of Doyle is back on Netflix Canada. Seasons 1-2-3-4

Note that watching it on CBC web site gives you SD and Flash won't even scale to full screen on a big TV set. (and the ads are generally way too loud). And the CBC web site does not remember which eps you have watched.

Just finished season 2 on Netflix UK. No sign of further seasons being added as yet which is a shame as it's different from what we normal see over here

Canadian Netflix has all 5 seasons now!
