70 minutes of utter pants

Worst film I've seen in a long while - cliched, poorly acted, and slower than a reliant robin in the rush hour. I want my money back, and I want my 70 minutes back. they will be hearing from my lawyer

"Also the soliders if were killing all the people to cover up the knowledge of this "experiment" should also have killed her daughter. As a low budget film if couldn't afford to show her getting shot could have just faded to black and ended the film with a gun shot. "

I'm guessing that they didn't show her being shot (if she was) because the soldiers now didn't have to deal with the threat of the monster, and aren't as freaked out and shooting at anything that moves. They were still obeying orders to take out witnesses, I presume, so they shot the Mom - and then the daughter started freaking out and crying, and without the monster to worry about, the soldiers were able to actually contemplate what they just did instead of outright shoot her for making noise and being a witness.

I think it makes sense that they didn't show her being shot because of that. To speculate, I'd say that she'd wind up "going away" after the cleanup effort by the military.

No they didn't. The soldier looked as scared as she did. I think he shot Beth thinking she was the creature and was actually quite shocked when he realised she wasn't. It's possible Jodie was then shot too, but we didn't see it.

I am a bit disappointed, too much of the film was taken up with the woman and the lover instead of including some other characters like say people in charge of the operation or top military personnel who could at least explain who or what the thing was, you also didn't see a awful lot of the think itself. I think it would have worked better as a TV drama!

I suspect that some people are too taken with american crap and death and gore they aren't happy when someone actually survives.
The plot had some holes yea...but if your so busy looking for holes ion a movie plot perhaps you shouldn't watch movies at all.
Besides the female lead bunging on the over acting a bit too much with the screaming and the way she backed away from the door I found this movie compelling and thorougly enjoyable to watch, not every movie has to be full of american rubbish to make it enjoyable.

Well said!

Oh come on. It was like a bad day at the Dr. Who studios.
The loft bit was just mad, you can see the guy doing the 'Jaws got my legs' moment, but then he's running around again later - made me think he was one of the monsters or something.
I kept making up plot while I watching, hoping that the squad guy was pretending, and was really the bad guy, or that an infection would spread or something. I guess I wanted a story to unfold, instead of all the fumbling about.

I understand it tried to be realistic and set in a British suburb, that's great, and the acting was fine too. It just all felt a bit unplanned, and half-hearted in plot.

It's not an issue of gore, it's an issue of continuity. When you set parameters to the film's scenario, especially ones critical to the plot (such as the soldiers being enemies of our characters and killing anyone they find) you either need to follow through on it, or give enough evidence (at least subtly) that there is a reason behind the exception. I just finished this film 5 minutes ago, and that inconsistency is my biggest gripe with it. The soldiers kills some people and don't kill others. The one soldier kills the guy, and rather than kill the woman, he'd rather embrace the dying man and not even acknowledge her existence. I felt like they wanted to inject a feeling of humanity into the soldiers, but rather than it be organic humanity, it just comes off as arbitrary picking and choosing. I did like some things about it (mainly in the beginning), but hopefully this is one of those films that helps launch the director/writers career, not define it.

P.S. While I understand your frustration with the current state of the Horror film genre as a series of plot-less gore fests, to generalize with terms such as "American crap" and "American rubbish" is quite unfair. As an American, I am just as dismayed by most of those types of films as you are, but gory slasher flicks have a well-defined place in the horror genre and consistently "put the asses in the seats" across the globe, as shown by The Hills Have Eyes remake earning 40% of its gross internationally (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=hillshaveeyes06.htm). So, before you place the blame for bad horror films solely on America's shoulders, why don't you ask all those people across the globe why they keep watching them.

reply

I have to say I didn't see any sign of inconsistency in who the soldiers killed. The sergeant major killed Kieran and Beth ran off. The soldiers then chased her into the woods. They also killed Lianne. They killed Beth (although possibly because they thought she was the creature). It ended before we saw whether Jodie was killed or not.

If it weren't for America you'd be living under tyranny. Try to show some gratitude.

"Soylent Green is PEOPLE!"

reply

You are kidding, right? The USA is busy trying to force its own brand of tyranny on the rest of the world.

Blowin' the changes!

I haven't seen the movie yet, but since you used the word "pants" as an adjective, I'm gonna go ahead and assume your opinion is worthless and give it a shot anyway.

Don't steal. The government hates the competition.

reply

Actually, he used it as a noun.

reply

I always knew it as an adjective, but then I don't use the term. Apparently it can be both. I just thought he was using it improperly, grammatically speaking.

From Urban Dictionary"

1.pants

rubbish, no good, bag of *beep*
you are pants

4. pants

adjective. British slang. Not good; total crap; nonsense; rubbish; bad
"The first half of the movie was pants but I stayed until the end and it was actually a great film."

Either way, it's the dumbest term ever.

just watch the film, it's the only way to fully appreciate the true value of the adjective 'pants'..

Applejackson75, you're one of the most annoying, pretentious people I've ever encountered...

reply

Oh, and in case you can't understand that:

From the dictionary:

an·noy·ing/
Adjective: Causing irritation or annoyance

pre·ten·tious/
Adjective: Attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed
