What this movie REALLY is about [NO SPOILERS!]

So, the tagline reads something like "salvaged container making violence, terror and crazies come to town. also mother daughter thing"

And sure... It is about that.
But... I found it more like a "mother gives up daughter, regrets, gets a chance to salvage relation. also container, violence terror and crazies."

SPOILERS AHEAD
With this change of perspective all need for thorough explanations are no longer needed.
Kinda like "the road", "book of eli", "I am legend" etc.
What is left is a dark - Mother givees up daughter, [build up tension], daughter DENIES mother, mother makes effort, salvation .. and TWIST mother dies - movie.

But also.. I think, what makes it work is the fact that you go in expecting the first tagline but instead get something else.
Because, frankly, as a movie about the second tagline this one kinda sucked.

But as a mix, and 'cause the lack of similar movies, I give it 6-7 of 10.
What do you think?

while it's a totally flawed film, I agree with you. As we know, some of the best horror films are metaphoric, so we can see this film as the mother's internal struggle to redeem herself and win her daughter back. very simple.

The film certainly is ambitious, with little money; and that allows me to forgive a lot. However, while it kept me watching till the end, it's flaws really ruined it for me. Still, nice try on such a low budget!

You forgot another subplot in this film... which was that women that pursue careers are forfeiting their right to be a parent/mother and will never be fulfilled.

I actually try not too hard to find sexism or misogyny in films or stories when it is just gender roles. But this was a little heavy handed.

The underlying message here was: Being a barrister is men's work. Being career minded is not the job of a woman that has a child.

Also... if you are a woman that has a child and you pursue your career, your husband will leave and take your daughter, because you are obviously unfit to raise a child... and eventually your daughter will abandon you and let a monster kill you because you had sex with a car salesman.

How many films are there about women leaving their husbands because they're workaholics? The answer is plenty. Any particular reason why it shouldn't be the other way around? Why is that sexist and misogynistic?

Society does not tell men that their only value in life is to raise children. Quite the opposite. Stories about women leaving workaholic husbands are going against this pattern. I'm honestly not that familiar with them... though there are gender roles for men as well as women. Typically, we don't see stories where fathers act as mothers.

The reason why this is sexist and misogynistic is that it is saying that women are not equal to men. The mother in this film pursued a career and lost everything because of it. Since when does society tell men that their place in society is not to become successful and provide for their family, but to stay home and take care of domestic issues?

Well, clearly you haven't, but I've seen many films and TV dramas where men have been castigated for letting their careers destroy their families. It's a very common theme. And invariably the wife ends up with the children and the man pays for his misdeeds. That's usually portrayed as deserved. I fail to see why on earth it should be sexist and misogynistic the other way round.

If you think that modern society tells women "that their only value in life is to raise children" then you must live in a very different society from mine. Fifty years ago, most certainly. Now? No way. I agree that many women do still think that way (actually many more women than men in my experience), but in western societies it's dying out and most educated people don't think that way.

This movie is like Black Hawk Down just from a western civillian point of few if that *beep* was happening in a small town in England instead of Mogadischu or smth... Of course there were no monsters in Mogadischu but there were also people scared and fighting for their lives against... well, maybe there were monsters there.
I liked it. Small budget but its really well thought out and plays with your superficiality in a world where everyone has an opinion on everything just because of the news.
