Very blown. I have a theory on how all this can make sense but who knows what RT is planning? I just know that hings keep getting better and better.

I was worried when I heard that Reconstruction was going to be much more story driven because I didn't want to lose the light comedy from The Blood Gulch Chronicles but so far, RT has done an amazing job of keeping it funny yet having an actually very compelling storyline to add depth to the entire series.

After watching episode 16, it just makes me look at every episode in a whole new way. Does everybody think that RT had Church being Alpha in mind from the beginning or do you think it was decided more near the end of The Blood Gulch Chronicles?

reply

You're right about the comedy / story balance.

And there's one part about the Church Alpha thing that I don't think fits with the beginning of RvB: The part where Sarge "dies." Remember how he and Church meet on the spirit plane and Church pretends to be a wingless Angel? AI wouldn't explain that. Unless Sarge is also really... nah.

EDIT: I just checked out Halopedia, and on their Reconstruction page, there's a paragraph with convincing speculation on how Sarge could be Sigma.

That's not what I think is the big plot hole with Church being the Alpha AI.

I think it's the fact that early on in season 2, Tex was also a ghost who could travel into people's minds. Does make Tex an AI? No, it wouldn't make sense, but I did find a plot hole.

And as far as Sarge being an AI, sure that could explain some.

After all, does anyone know about Sarge's backstory? Or even NAME?

But he could have just been in a coma and since Church was in his head, Sarge would dream about Church.

GRIF: The freelancers are infultrating their own base. That's dumb!

SIMMONS: That's exactly what we're doing.

GRIF: I know, just because we're doing something doesn't make it smart.

SIMMONS: Hhhh...tell me about it

In regards to Tex: I can't remember, but was Tex ever actually depicted as a ghost, identical to Church. I don't think she ever was. We never saw her ghost enter Lopez, or the later replacement body. One part I'd have to check would be when she and Church entered Caboose's mind. That's one time she may have been depicted as a ghost, but I'm not sure.

Actually, yes. Season 4 when she and Church are scared out of their bodies by the first alien. Just watched it last night.

But you had a point. They never did show her in ghost form before while possessing the robo-bodies. I thought she might've been different, too, but I think it was mainly for surprise.

reply

Ah yes, I remember that now... I had been wondering if she was half of the Omega AI, and O'Malley was the other half.

Yeah, that whole "fragment" thing kinda makes sense to me now. A few months after I'd finished watching "Blood Gulch" I started to wonder why Omega couldn't possess a robot body on his own.

reply

I'm very interested in seeing how all of this plays out.

I really hope Church isn't dead, he is my favorite character.

and I want to see how they handle this Tex, and potentially Sarge, business as well.

In regards to Sarge being Sigma, interesting as the idea is, I'm not sure that would work.
It works /brilliantly/ in some ways, but there are a few gaping holes in it (though RT could probably find ways around it. I mean, the idea for Church to be an AI probably wouldn't have come up until well into season 5 at the earliest and there are still few, if any, definite holes in that. They're pretty bloody good at thinking on their toes. The Tex thing will no doubt be explained eventually, since her being a ghost was actually brought up several times in Reconstruction).

But anyhoo, some problems with the theory:
-Sigma is another fragmented AI, rather than a whole one like Church, so I doubt he could have a body of his own as Sarge does.
-Sarge was stationed right by Church's base. If the whole point of putting Church in the middle of nowhere was to keep freelancers and his fragmented AIs away from him, why would they put Sarge there too?
-The EMP thing would have killed him if he were an AI, wouldn't it?
