The only positive thing...

I watched this excellent documentary yesterday. I just stumbled into it, and could not force myself to switch off and go to bed - which was my original plan at that time of night...

I find it sad that not more people have seen it, and are here to discuss it. Films like these should definitely be more widespread than they are. I cannot understand how such a fundamentalist slave comunity can be allowed to exist in a relatively modern country.

The only positive thing I could see about this sect and the people who had been part of it, was that there were no obese people among them. They seemed to have a much more healthy approach to food than the average American. (On the other hand - with 15+ mouths to feed in a family, there won't be any room for a fattening surplus, will there?)

So all you gathered from this documentaries was "no fatties?" Um, okay. Doesn't have anything to do with how it's a cult which leads an aescetic existence - how they are told what and when to eat, how the women are expected to maintain a "pleasing" face and figure (as set forth by the cult leaders - for example, not cutting their hair and wearing it up) for their men or risk going to hell, how money and probably food itself is controlled by the church, how the best and most food goes to the patriarch of the family and the wives and children get to split what's left. Yeah, sounds like a "healthy approach to food."

They're coming to get you, Barbara!
