A Topic Appropriate For Comedy

Trotsky is funny. Stalin was a riot. So was Lenin, and all those Communist malcontents. Now, Obama is funny. Betcha he loved this movie.

But it was only a joke.

reply

Yeah, 100 million dead by these guys is a laugh riot.

reply

Well to be fair, Trotsky was never really in power so he never really had a chance to kill anybody. You can say he engineered some of the killing though by leading The Red Army before he was exiled.

reply

He was certainly in power, though Lenin was the head honcho of Bolshevik affairs from 1902-1924, the leadership was far more collective than it would be under Stalin or his successors. Trotsky along with Zinoviev and Kamenev were probably the second most important man in the Bolshevik hierarchy after Lenin, and Trotsky certainly wielded more power than the aforementioned.

Some of the wonderfully comical things Trotsky helped oversee or oversaw directly: the Red Terror of the 1917-1922 period in which 200,000 political opponents to the Bolsheviks were summarily executed. Trotsky along with Lenin and
Checka Chief Dzerzhinsky were the primary organizers of the first Terror. Trotsky also was Commissar of War (Defense Secretary) during the Russian Civil War, and oversaw the imprisonment, displacement, and deaths of hundreds of thousands more innocent people over the course of the war.

Trotsky would be considered on the level of Kim Jong-Il if he was around today, it's why this whole movie is so inappropriate.

reply

I, honestly, have no sympathy for the monarchists. Ooh the poor czars got there asses handed to them.

reply

LOL at the nonsensical jab at Obama. He may be a bad president, but a Bolshevik he is not.

As for appropriate topics for comedy, why is Trotsky off limits? Great tragedies are made into jokes by artists all the time, and rarely is it ever malicious. How funny or disturbing they are is more about how they're delivered rather than the topic itself. "Springtime for Hitler" would have been funny if it was real. Inserting a laugh track into the darkest parts of "Schindler's List" would be a bit more disturbing.

But I'm digressing from my point here: You're wrong, and everything is fair game for comedy. Whether or not it's actually funny is a different story.

reply

It was only a joke, it's just a movie, right?

It is not right to take more money from someone just because they have more than you. If you claim that as a "right", then I claim a Pretty Person as my right. I would rather have a physically beautiful life partner than money. I may be hideous, overweight old and repulsive, but I think I am entitled to a Young Pretty Person. After all, they have something I don't have, and I want it, even though I did not earn it or necessarily deserve it.

Please establish the government that will equitably distribute attractive life partners in a fair manner to everyone, with appropriate considerations for those who are not attractive. There are more of those, so they must get the majority of attractive partners.

It's gotta be a joke. Jealousy is not a good basis for social order. No sane person would suggest Trotsky as a role model.

reply

Christ, this movie's message board is piss full of ultra-reactionary dipsh!ts with less than no understanding of Trotsky, the Bolshevik revolution, socialism or really anything in the world.

Sig under construction
