My one pet peeve...

(With the film and the book)

Throughout the story, we're given the impression that Ronnie's dad lives in a small town, pretty far from a bigger city. This is made evident by Ronnie's attitude towards being there in the first place - she hates being stuck in a small town all summer. Then, Ronnie needs a dress to wear to the wedding, and we're led to believe that there's only one place around that she could find a dress. And so on...

First of all, the film is set in Tybee Island, Georgia, which isn't far from Savannah, which is an interesting, artsy city. There would certainly be a lot of places there to find a dress. That said, if I remember correctly, Tybee isn't like, walking distance away from Savannah, so whatever.

In the book, though, this drives me crazy. The setting there is Wrightsville Beach, which is a very small town. That said, it's extremely busy in the summer - so busy that it's near impossible to find parking, and full of pedestrians. It's well represented in that it's a typical beach town, there's not much shopping, etc.

That said, Wilmington is a big town, with a mall and tons of shopping, is literally walking distance from Wrightsville Beach. In fact, there are two nice shopping centers on the road that leads in to Wrightsville Beach, five-ten minutes from where Ronnie would've been. I can't imagine that her dad wouldn't have let her borrow the car to head up the street...
