It's the best thing I've seen him do since Wonder Boys. They would do better to wait to see if Wall Street II: Money Never Sleeps restores his boxoffice appeal and cash in on that.

Not that this film doesn't have merits of its own, it does in spades. But this is a guy with a dismal recent track record and this film deserves better than to go straight-to-video.

It ain't easy being green, or anything else, other than to be me

dismal track record? every film he has made has pretty much made a profit or won an award or made someone else's career. however i was expecting more of this film, i thought it would be a serious movie but looks more like a standard rom com with an older lead; so at most it looks okay

dismal track record?

I think you overlooked the word "recent" in my previous post.

actually the sentinel and you me and dupree made good money so i dont know what you're referring to

Wonder Boys
The In-Laws
It Runs in the Family
King of California
Beyond a Reasonable Doubt

The last two were practically straight to video. You, Me and Dupree had him getting fourth billing, it can't be considered that he was the primary attraction.

I don't know that Douglas has cheated on his current wife or been a thief in business
Sarandon's character remarks on how fair he was to her in the divorce settlement--
not so in real life--his exwife is suing him for her share of profit/salary he will get from the Wall Street sequel--because her divorce settlement coverd "spinoffs" of work done during their marriage...

but his son certainly missed out on something to have the kind of life he has

that is what I was thinking when I watched the movie
Ben's rationalization about why he destroyed his life was unique because usually we see this level of selfdestruction from someone on drugs or who is alcoholic and can't control it

Here's a review commenting on Kalmen's narrative and its appeal and significance for a larger audience:
