Excellent Film but Needs One Error Edited Out

This film is terrific: well casted, great script, and direction. There is one serious flaw that needs to be edited out or reshot. That scene is the assault and battery attack near the end. This complicates the story because a felony has now been committed which would get reported to the Boston PD; remember he does end up in an ER who also must report it. The police investigation will lead right back to NYC and to Allyson's parents. We don't need this distraction in this story. Several of my friends watching this film had the same reaction. They should have rewritten this complication: maybe a bunch of thugs just threaten Ben only. The director should have seen this error. Other than that, it's a fantastic film just like Wonder Boys.

reply

The attacker said he was a former policeman with high-placed connections in the department so to report him would be futile.

We'll see whose the filthiest person alive! We'll just see!

reply

And: the attacker said that Douglas' early "assault on a student" (the fight over the frisbee) was recorded with Douglas as the instigator...which, the attacker says, is how Douglas will be reported NOW, if he tries to file a complaint.

I like how the attacker says: "I'm going to say some things to you, and I'm going to DO some things to you." Fair warning.

reply

That's not what "fair warning" means. The call he received from Jordan Karsch from the limo... that was "fair warning". This... this was just cool dialog.

reply

Well, I think I meant fair warning, seconds ahead of it, that Michael Douglas was about to get a serious beatin'.

He shoulda curled up in a ball. Instead, the dummy lets the assailant "help him up" and crack his ribs with continuous blows.

What a maroon.

reply

No, he was going to get a beating no matter what he did.

>>What a maroon.

What, are you Bugs Bunny?

"What a maroon"

A lot of posters on the IMDB forum are so thick they probably won't see the IRONY in that comment above.

English may not be your first language, and in which case, I apologise.

I thought this was a really good film, Micheal Douglas is just cool as *beep* perfect for the role. I'm surprised this film has no wide release, and is available on the net.

To the OP, Sometimes, in fact quite often Films are not 100% accurate to reality, when you notices things it can degrade from the enjoyment sometimes, such as 'Hurt Locker', it won an oscar, but I have friends in the army and when they watched Hurt Locker they're a lot of details in it that were incorrect. I personally have not seen past 15 minutes of the film...just felt myself not in the mood for it.

Nevetheless, 8/10

!!

He has hit rock bottom (to a millionaire). I wonder if he learned anything. I wonder which way he walked in the end.

There are no atheists in hell.

I do believe "maroon" is a take-off of how Bugs Bunny said "moron." Try not to assume you GET what people are trying to say before you rip them.

reply

you are only partly right, but wholly off.
bugs bunny was indeed saying maroon, not mispronouncing moron...
maroon studios was a chief competitor of Warner Brothers (bug's studio)
it was a jab at the expense of whomever he was calling maroon, as well as calling maroon cartoon characters morons...

notable maroon cartoon characters...
Roger Rabbit, Jessica Rabbit, Mother, Baby Herman, Big Chief Ooh-Aah, Slipping Bull, Fandango, Baron von Baron, Peter Possum, Gidday, Drongo.

I wish I could have seen how straight your face was when you typed all that out. But I had to Google it anyway just to be on the safe side. :D

reply

Yeah, that was a clever reply!

reply

No, Ben would say he did not see his attacker, at least that is what would be consistent with his story. Because at that point it would only get worse if he went to the cops - at least in this movie's universe.
