I completely agree with you...i had the exact same feeling all through the movie...all the french movies (most european movies in general), I know of, that deals with sex and relationships are somewhat more mature, realistic, modern, and all-round less preachy style...what's with the guilt complex and sex?!? in fact, in french movies, the age of the main female protagonists are rarely mentioned simply because it has nothing to do with enjoyment of sex, or whether they are going to get married or whether they have a huge age difference or whether he is a politician or has a high-end job that depends on his maintaining an exemplary moral rectitude...there's nothing of that crap!!! "you can't cheat death by screwing a 19yr old"...LOL...yeah i was waiting for that phrase all through the movie and it made me laugh to hear it in the end...so since it's a story about redemption and being all virtuous and moral and preachy, what's the moral of the story then? that it's acceptable (and excusable) to go off tangent and have sex with lotsa 19yr olds and their mothers IF you have an incurable disease or you suddenly see yourself as old and cannot accept the fact!? mmm...interesting...or is it more realistic to say that he had sex with younger women because he enjoys sex with younger women...the ending is the only redeeming factor about the movie, about us never knowing HIS choice :)
