Extremely underrated
I loved htis film, it was poor man's Death of The Maiden, but still great. Suspenseful and intriguing, tightly written, I can't believe the 4.9 rating.

Really cool little film. I also liked it.

I agree it was enjoyable, and full of suspense, Frank Whaley did a great jobSource:Movie reviews - As Good As Deadhttp://moviereviews.noskram.com/2010/02/movie-reviews-as-good-as-dead
shareI also enjoyed it even though I didn't like the part where they killed the dog.
I started getting upset with the main character when he did nothing to save the girl from the needles but curse over and over. I wondered about him from that point onward and so the ending didn't shock me at all.
It was enjoyable, though cheesey. For the most part, I did not know how the story would unfold. Certainly merits more than a 4.9, but not much more (maybe 5.8 or 6, TOPS). Cary Elwes has quietly become a versatile leading man; Brian Cox's screen time (while brief) was intense and powerful; Frank Whaley, as always, disappears into his role with such comfort; Andi MacDowell first terrified me, then broke my heart with her sensitive performance.

"Who's scruffy lookin'?"
I hadn't heard of this film before and came in to it midway through, playing on my TV when I walked into my living room.
Although obviously some very good actors in it, -- at first I thought C. Elwes was Tim Robbins (LOL) because he was already strung up and bloodied, until I heard his voice and then I checked the TV guide on screen to see who was in it -- I don't like gruesome torture scenes (nothing morally against them -- I just don't like watching them anymore), the performances really caught my attention, as did the plot. So, I stuck around to watch it all the way through to see what the resolution would be, and I was pleasantly surprised. Now, I want to watch it from the very beginning.
Top honors, I believe, go to Frank Whaley for his chilling, psychopathic performance (man oh man, can he slip effortlessly into any character he plays, and for some reason those glasses he wears along with his haircut makes him even scarier) and then to Andie MacDowell, who played a character unlike one I have seen her play before.
Taut thriller, but be forewarned some gruesome, gory and chilling scenes in this movie. I certainly would not want Whaley's character to ever have me in his sights!

Good movie.
Instead of cheese it surprised me with amazing performances all around.
Worthy of more than a sub 5 rating.
