Catch Me If You Can

Isn't this movie seem to be a Bollywood version of 'Catch Me If You Can' ?

reply

follows a similar line...but differs mostly!!!

you could say, abhay and leonardo share the same character traits. They dont steal for the money, its for the excitement & the fun....

abhay did say one line..."sabji,aapke police mein koi kam milega?Saare choron ko pakdunga.."

This ending was true in the case of you-know-where!!

This film was wonderful, sad that it didn't set the BO on fire....another good film fails in the BO due to a dumb audience.

reply

i think it also didn't fare well in BO because of the terror attacks..it was literally released at the same day..mumbai shows were running empty..

the theme seemed the same with dicaprio's film but yes there are some differences...

reply

Not even close and i am the first to spot similarities bewteen bollywood and hollywood. There is no Tom Hanks character in Lucky oye.

reply

By extension of the OP's logic, every cop-thief film is the same then, which is obv not the case. They are essentially different films- in milieu, in the character etc. Lucky is shown to be corrupt in the movie, but the point is that every one around him is even more corrupt than him then, which is not the essence of CMIYC. There are many other points coming tomind, but then this could go on, and anyway point has been proven.

Its definitely a rip off from the movie "catch me if you can" Growing up with his parents are not happy and divorced just like hollywood movie. Then the cops chasing him through the movie. Some scenes are copied also, like in the end of the movie in the flight when he is arrested exactly like catch me if you can. Then he escapes from the cops in the alomost end of the movie. Exactly like the the other movie. They have been changing some things the movie, but hte main plot and some basic scenes are copied from catch me if you can. Bollywood need write their own damn storis or just stop makig movies.

In what way is this movie a rip-off?

Catch me if you can is based on a true story, about a boy who discovers a loophole in check processing. He gets his wit and charm from imitating his father who he knows is a small time scamster. He gets arrested once and does not escape again. Sure he gets away and scams around during weekends, but only after giving his word that he'll be back on Monday - and he is back every Monday. Catch me if you can is a story about a boy who discovers he can lie well and can't live without doing it.

Oye lucky is about a boy who scams people and steals things. There is no blue collar crime. His father is a straightforward man who did nothing to contribute to his lifestyle. He does not leave home because his parents are unhappy (in fact, it is evident that they are not unhappy with each other when he leaves home, from the vacation scenes where he is surprised to know that his father and mother dont live together any more). He escapes the cops even after being arrested, and that's where the movie ends.

Whether you compare scenes or story, this movie is nothing like catch me if you can.

When people say this isn't a rip-off, they mainly spot the differences in both the films to prove their point.

But when Bollywood makes a remake of Hollywood, they HAVE TO do that because this is not Hollywood, so it won't attract majority of the viewers if the film doesn't have a Bolly touch.

But when you point out differences to say that it's not a rip-pff, you must also admit that 'Ghajini' is not a remake of 'Memento', then ?

Right ?

reply

Yes, there is a common trait... frank abagnale and lucky are both hustlers who have the necessary words to get out of a tough situation. Both are con men by nature.

reply

Ghajini has the same plot and the same story as the Hollywood original (Memento). The main characters are also pretty much the same and hence, you could say it is a rip off.

OLLO doesn't have anything in common with CMIYC apart from the leads being con men. The story is completely different and so are the scenes and characters which is why this isn't a rip off.

Good movie, worth a watch.
