who felt..

who felt like crying when they heard rowlf after all of these years of being silent? i felt like i was going to cry!

what's up doc?

reply

I actually was kind of upset. The original crew left him silent out of respect for Henson. but I guess now that Disney owns them......

reply

true but maby i guess since it was a holiay special they wanted to put ALL of the muppets no matter what circumstance to put them in the special

what's up doc?

reply

No, that's not true. He's had a few lines here and there since Henson's death. It's good to see him talking again and sounding like his old self. The Disney deal had nothing to do with it.

This is not something to get bent out of shape over.

After all, fictional characters are meant to live forever no matter what, even though the people that created them aren't going to be around forever.

reply

Yeah. Me too. I couldn't believe that after all these years they decided to let Rowlf talk again. Hooray!

reply

yeah

I just watched this yesterday, and personally I was absolutely shocked. Way back when I saw Muppet Wizard of Oz and had to suffer through Pepe as Toto and wondering why they didn't use Rowlf, I looked it up and thoroughly approved of the reason... if not who they replaced him with.

But it's nice to hear him speak (even in this special...) again, and it sounded quite good to me.

This isn't the first time that Rowlf has spoken since Henson died. Most recently he sang a song on "The Muppets: A Red and Green Christmas", which came out in 2006. He sings a really delightful song on that album, and has spoken a few other times as well.

Personally, and of course this is debatable, I think the new performer is doing pretty well with him (certainly better than they are doing with Janice and Scooter these days).

If you want to read about the other places Rowlf has spoken, check out his page on the Muppet Wiki...
