Who was the good guy?

Okay, so my sister and I watched this last night, and needless to say we had no idea what exactly we watched. Aside from some english spoken, we didn't understand much of the Hindi because we didn't recognize the words much when talks about running the election came up. Also, we couldn't keep up with all the characters.

but our understanding was..Ranbir was psychotic, killed everyone, ruined everyone's life, but walked away in one piece and boarded a plane to wherever. Ajay was Ranbir's half brother, but was killed by him, even though he was the only good guy? & for some reason, it was relevant to throw in the fact that hes a bastard child? Then we have Arjun Rampal, who sometimes the movie has us root for...and then he goes and becomes psychotic too? Then there's Veeru, who makes these freaky faces, so we don't know what the hell he is? And lets not forget Nana Patekar, who tells their mother he cant hurt Ajay because he's her son, then he gets Ranbir to kill him.

Not to mention, the paralyzed guy on the bed who everyone calls baba. Is that their father? Or is the guy that was shot their father?

Could someone please just, be patient and explain this stupid storyline?

First, you need to put spoiler alerts when you narrate and ask questions. Duh.

By my first paragraph and subject, you have to be pretty dense to assume there won't be any spoilers.

And..question was for those who have seen it (obviously), if others open it up, their looking for spoilers.

no, first you need to stop reading posts on movies you intend to watch.

I'm 22, and Hindi/Urdu is my first language as I'm Pakistani, and I have two cousins, one 27 and the other 25, and my younger sister who is 18 that also did not fully understand what was going on. I grew up watching Hindi movies, and if you still have doubt, I could give you a list of my favorites.

Too many characters, Hindi words pertaining to politics and a confusing (yes, confusing) storyline.

And it was not rambling, it was me writing down the only parts I understood. If you have no clarity to offer, then why waste your time responding and throwing around unneeded criticism?

K I jus watched this film like yesterday but let me TRY to xplain u da concept aight

Ranbir was NOT a psychotic at all...He was pushed to the wall and he retiliated...His dad got shot, His brother went behind bars, he had no clue. Its what u call dirty game of politics. Ranbir had to kill Ajay cause his dad, brother, girlfriend, unborn child all died cause of Ajay. It was Ajay who called the shots as per da Gay dude who called his dad on the night he got shot. Its very safe to say that there is no such thing as GOOD in Politics...an outsider like Ranbir suffered the most and an ex activist i.e. his mum suffered alot as well...In life we dont always have good guys...sometimes its da goodwill of the bad guys which leave us shocked!!!!!
Oh yea its NOT a stupid storyline its a very well executed storyline. I am a Paki too and I have never read Mahabharat...However I will read it now...it seems like a great book.

Basically in Rajneeti everyone have evil shades and this is what politics is...be it Bhutto Family or Gandhi family...

Okay the storyline is:

Manoj's dad gave his power/position to Arjun and Arjun's dad, instead of to his own son. Arjun was acting like he owned the place and was becoming a tyrant. Manoj gets mad and tells Ajay to kill Arjun's dad. He kills Arjun's dad and puts Arjun in jail. Ranbir gets mad and gets Arjun out of jail and starts his own party. Thus, Manoj and Arjun are now contesting against each other.

Now, Manoj is trying to have a normal election but Ranbir is constantly trying to mess things up. He blackmails the gay guy into talking sh*t about Manoj, and then kills him. Arjun (Ranbir's bro) kills the cop, and the secretary. Ranbir forces people in Manoj's party to submit messed up documents to the seat selection committee so they lose all their seats.

Manoj & Ajay are really annoyed and retaliate by placing that bomb. Ranbir then rigs the voting machines and kills them.

In my opinion, Ranbir was an annoying prick who was constantly trying to mess things up. Manoj was trying to have an honest normal election and Ranbir was being a sneaky pest.

Yeah I agree, I wanted to jump into the screen and kill Ranbir myself.

I understood a little of it, and I saw Ranbir doing his sabotaging but whenever there was an attack on Arjun Rampal or Ranbir, they never showed Ajay taking part of it, or even deciding to do it. So, I thought he was the only honest person in the election. But, thanks for the easy-to-understand summary. It makes sense now lol.

The earlier commentator has got it wrong and so do you. Ajay Devgan was the doer and if you think this is a stupid storyline you need to really get back to Karan Johar and Yash Raj films.
The movie tries to show there are no good guys here. This is a high stakes game where everyone pays a price.

reply

Once again, with the judgmental nonsense. I do not like Karan Johar, I can speak Hindi just fine, and I'm not a fan of Yash Raj. Films that leave you wondering what the hell has happened, are not good films. Therefore it is a stupid storyline to me. So shut it.

Omrkara and Ishqiya were also not easy films to follow due to the dialogue, but I enjoyed those films. This one was silly.

Ajays was bad to you, but for some reason he was never shown plotting anyone's demise like Ranbir? And were supposed to know hes a bad guy? Oh please. Spare me.

why aren't you guys using the character names? it's hard to follow what you're saying.

reply

I agree. The movie was a mess as it is, no need to confuse us more.

hang on a second here...manoj sd have accepted and given respect to his dad's decision...so technically he was wrong in the first place...then him and ajay killed ranbir's dad...that was just wrong...they were part of one family they started the killing. Arjun was more popular than manoj in every district. And Manoj had authority in the party thats how he got ajay in. so ranbir blackmails the gay guy thats wrong but when ajay brings up the katrina arjun wedding angle thats fine???? for F sake. haha there was no such thing as rigging the voting machine that was just a trap. Overall manoj and ajay were worse cause they started the killing business.
